3-ton cab same as 1/2 ton?
Hi folks,
I'm posting the build thread for my '52 Suburban hot rod in the '47 - '54 forum but stumbled onto a '63 3-ton for (essentially) free. I had a '61 Suburban and it sure looks like the cab section of the 3-ton is the same. Reason I ask is I'm thinking of using this front sheet metal to build a "mini monster" pickup. I just wondered if anyone knows if it fits the 1/2 ton cab. Any help appreciated. Here's a pic of the 3-ton and my ultra hack 'chop of kinda what I'm thinking. Would probably be a pick up, I just had the pic of my old 'burb that I was playing with. Chris 925-708-5295 Last edited by tygaboy; 11-24-2007 at 10:49 AM. |

I cant see why it would be any different, it looks like the fenders, and possibly the grill are longer though.

According to the GM restoration guide I got from GM, the cabs are the same size.

Cabs are the same, except for the bolt-in center hump in the floor. The radiator support and fenders are several inches taller. You could do what you're thinking by stepping, or Z'ing the frame at the front to make up the difference. It might be pretty cool on a lifted 4x4 dually.

The bolt in center tall tranny hump is on the 4 speed floor shifts, it should be the same as the regular cab trucks.

The cabs are the same with only minor differences. I'm not sure if the transmission cover is interchangeable with a pickup or not. I'd have to look at my '63 C60 tomorrow to be sure. I would say that what you're wanting to do is possible without too much hassle.
