my speedometer is possessed
ever since it rolled over at 100K miles it has been acting weird. it will show whatever speed it wants to. I can be rolling along with 30 MPH traffic and it will sometimes show 50 while other times it will show 20 or even 10. then when I come to a stop it will stay up wherever it feels is appropriate.
I wish it would tell me how fast I am going instead of how fast it wants me to go. has anyone else had this? without spending my boys' X-mas present $ how do I fix this? |

It just wants to show you who's boss....... If you start using premium gas it won't do it any more..... NO, I swear, it's true... LockDoc

Re: my speedometer is possessed
I think this might work only if you are drinking the gas. I would agree with lubing the cable first. Maybe even replacing the old and I mean age wise cable and housing. There are other places to fail also along with the gauge itself. Test each one before drinking the high octane gas. I buy my rum way cheaper than gas and my gauge works just fine.

Re: my speedometer is possessed
Seriously, the speedo's do go bad. But from my experience the speedo only has a few parts and unless it has been exposed to the elements seldom has troubles. The whole deal is driven by two plastic gears in the trans that drive a cable (square in shape) within a round housing attached to the backside of the speedometer. All connections must be clean tight. TEST each one seperate from the other to find bad spot. My easiest test would be hook up my speedometer in your truck sit on the other side and go for a ride in your truck to see for sure. That would work fine but I fart alot and you would not be comfortable. Maybe you could try that idea out without me. Anyhow, just some ideas

Re: my speedometer is possessed
Some Times In Vehicals That Have Speedo Cables, The Cables Get Twisted In The Housing. Thus Causing This Problem. But As Stated In The Other Threads, It Could Be In The Speedo Head. Or Possibly The Gears In The Tranny May Need Replaced.
