Help a newby with a I6
Ok,
This is my first ever restoration project. I have a parts truck with a I6 i want to pull out of it. What is the best way to pull the engine? Should I use straps or chains? I'm completely new to this type of work. Thanks for the help. Buck |

Re: Help a newby with a I6
I only use chains and my engine hoist. Try to get a bolt at the front and rear opposite on the engine. Pull up on the chain to see that you are not catching on anything and use an engine hoist if available. These are cheap to rent around here 30.00 for a day...but the safest way to pull it. Good Luck!!!!

Don't forget to unbolt the tranny first..unless you are taking them out together....It's much easier if the front clip is off too....just pull straight out the front....
good luck!

Don't forget to at least remove the radiator first if it needs saved. One good "bump" when the motor swings forward when attached to the hoist and you can either kiss the thing away or $$$.

Re: Help a newby with a I6
I bought one some time ago at Harbor Freight. It worked great. I wish you weren't so far away, I would just give it to you. I don't think I'll need it anymore. I caught it on sale and I think it is on sale now....
I used this one because it was a little longer out front. There will be a lot of weight out front as the six is long. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=32916 |
