Camper wiring harness???

I was underneath my C20 the other day and the PO has "kind" of hacked what looks to be the original harness.... I am familiar with the tradtional four wire harness that runs from just outside hte firewall to the rear bumper area, but I have never seen a unmolested camper harness... does anyone OR can anyone take a pic or two for me... does any one reproduce them???? thanks,

the stock camper harness that was on my longhorn came up in front of the bed. I don't think I have any pics of it though. I'll try to remember tonight when i have some extra time.

I deleted my pic, but I had a nice one I sold some time ago. Basically it runs an extra set of tail light wires, ground, and unfused 10 gauge power to the rear of the truck for a camper.

Yeah, the PO has four wires wirenutted on to a harness that is tapedup with electrical tape near where the aux fuel tank resided... then it is tapped into again beneath the rear of the bed with a "four wire" trailer harness nutted to that.... the rear taillights work as necessary, but it is definetly a birdsnest of wires... I would like to return the camper wiring as the factory had it, and then correctly add a "7-wire" electric trailer brake outlet to my rear opening. I guess thats just the anal retentive shop teacher in me ... thanks for the replys...

the thing with the camper harness is that if your not going to use it, it is just a liability hanging under your truck. One of the wires is a 10 ga unfused (maybe there is a fusible link I forget) power lead that comes off of the terminal block by the battery. If that shorts out your truck could go up in flames. The harness basically is a duplicate set of taillight wires + power wire that hooks or terminates to nothing....they are dead ended unless you have a camper with lights to hook them into. The taillight wiring is for when the camper overhangs the factory taillights and the camper has its own taillights. So if you don't have a camper it hardly makes sense even if you are trying to be anally original. My 2 cents..

One further thought...I guess if you need the power wire for a electric trailer brake then maybe it would make sense....

Here are a couple of pictures of the stock camper wiring harness, (out of the truck). There are a total of (6) wires that end up running back to the front of the bed where they terminated to the camper. The harness plugged in between the existing front to rear (4) wire harness that feeds the tail/stop/backup lights and in addition there was a #10 red power wire that routed to the battery in the radiator support wire channel to the terminal on the fender. To protect the power wire would require a fusible link between the + post of the battery and the terminal.

Also, there was a #10 white ground wire that grounded to the firewall very close to where the taillight wiring exited from inside.

The first picture shows the overall view of the harness and the second picture shows a closeup of the ends that plug into the existing taillight harness.

The original camper harness is not long enough to go from the front to the rear so extending the wires will be necessary.

No SPID but it is badged a Custom Camper. Here is a '69 Data Book reference to the camper wiring location. It looks like mine but the pic isn't too clear.

On my 69 I have a harness on top of the cab and also some kinda harness on the back. Does any of this look factory?

The harnes was a seperate option, not part of the cutom camper package... so if its not on the spid, then it is an after production instalation.

Is that a factory terminal on the end of the harness?

I have never seen the end of the harness that actually connected to the camper. The (5) harnesses that I have were all cut off.

while I am not positive, I am pretty sure it was original.

My truck didn't have a SPID but the factory book shows it at the same location (pretty much) as mine,passenger side rear bed wall behind the wheel well.I would guess that anything else was added after delivery.
