Some Pics of a Trip I Took
I've been a long time lurker here, and have made a few posts here and there, but never with any pictures. I though you guys would appreciate some pics from a road trip my girlfriend and I took this summer that started in southern California, went through Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. The Blazer ran like a champ the whole way, even in the 110+ heat of the Mojave desert, and at 13,000 ft elevation crossing the gap between Telluride and Ridgeway, Colorado (had to advance the timing about 20 degrees to keep it running!). I have owned this Blazer for over 10 years now and have poured a lot of blood sweat and tears into it. It is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, and couldn't ever imagine getting rid of it. Anyways, enjoy. I know I did.

Dude, way to represent ochre. What size lift and tires are you running? It looks awsome. When you get a chance, post some more pics, it helps me envision mine when I'm finally able to drive it. Later, Mario.

Re: Some Pics of a Trip I Took
Thanks for all the compliments. It means a lot to me to hear them from people who really know how to appreciate these old trucks. I have many more pics to share of the trip, plus many more from other trips to the local desert spots, up north along the Big Sur, and in Mexico. Sorry in advance for the long post, but when I get talking about my truck I can go on and on!
To answer some of the spec questions, here is what I have going on: -3/4 ton Dana 44 front, 4.10 gears, open -1 ton 14 bolt full floater rear, 4.11 gears, open -Mildly massaged 4-bolt main 350, Hedman hedders, Edelbrock Performer Intake, Jet Performance Q-jet, HEI, high flow water pump, dual electric fans, 95 amp internally regulated alt. -TH350 trans with couple extra steels/clutches in packs for durability, external fluid cooler, vacuum modulator adjusted for delayed shift from 1 to 2 resulting in crisper shifts and longer life. -NP 205 -40 gallon NWP gas tank -6-inch Superlift springs front and rear with 1-inch blocks in rear to level, drop drag link, stainless brake lines all around, CV driveshafts front and rear. The rear of the truck was squatting in the pics because it was fully loaded in the back and in the roof pod with 1 month of provisions. -1 ton dual diaphragm brake booster with 1 ton master cylinder. - 16.5x10, 8-lug Ansen aluminum slots. - Parnelli Jones 35x12.50 Dirt grip radials (measure a true 35 inches, much taller than a 35-inch BFG). The Blazer actually got pretty respectable gas mileage with the gearing. I can cruise at 70 mph at about 2700-2800 rpm. However, I am looking at doing a 700R4 swap, or Gear Vendors overdrive soon since I do quite a bit of long distance driving on my trips. The true beauty of the Blazer is that it allowed us to camp WELL off any fire roads and to cross fairly deep creeks in the undeveloped BLM lands away from other RVs. The diamond plate was something I saw an article on in an old Peterson's 4 Wheel Drive mag some years ago. I got it to protect the paint below the belt line. In southern California there is a lot of sand and rock that likes to jump up and scour that paint. Since the trip, I located a set (4) of 16.5x9.75, 8-lug steelies off of some early (67-68) Ford Camper Specials. I painted them stock white and mounted a set of 3/4 ton dog dish hub caps (blue bow tie). The slots were sweet, but the deep steelies with caps are just plain *****in' with the big rubber. I love the retro/stock look. The steelies also have a slightly larger backspacing to allow the wider rim to stay within the fender lips, unlike the Ansens which stick out a little. I also located a swing-away spare tire carrier which I have since mounted. I will post up some more action and poser shots from other trips plus some recent shots with the new rims. Thanks again. |
