went to the junkyard for my rear seat (86 suburban 3rd row bench) a hammer and a chisel are much easier to lug around than a huge generator so thats what i used


it took me 30 minutes to decide which one to use

i even took the carpet home to help me mark the bed floor


ready to tack in the gas door (88-98) having filler neck problems though! any suggestions???


this is where im at. as far as the 4wd to 2wd conversion the frame is already drilled for the 2wd crossmember up front. can anyone tell me the best trailing arms to use for the rear on a 2wd conversion??? i recently found out the frames are different on a 4wd! can i use trailing arms from a longbed pick-up 2wd???

looking good, sorry I'm not much help on the 4wd conversion. Get with Gringoloco, he's done it and his is awesome. I've got a 91 burb 3rd row for my backseat. Looks like they are good choices.

Is it going to be topless all the time like my roadster??

no i have a top in near perfect condition! how do you guys without tops plan on washing those trucks when the interior is in??? thanks for all the input so far! i will keep the progress pitures coming!

Looks like a great project!
As far as trailing arms, they are the same length in 67-72 trucks. Long box, short box, Blazer, all the same length.

When I did my flush mount door, I reused the stock filler pipe.

My understanding is that the trailing arms will fit, but you'll need to fabricate some shock mounts. If you plan on running airbags, you'll probably need to fabricate something anyway. LIVRAT has at lest a dozen conversions.

I believe that air ride is now making a 4-link system that is suppose to be a bolt in. I'm not sure if it is a bolt in for converted rigs though.

All corect! The only differance in the rear of a 4x4 to 2x4 frame is the 4x4 does not flair out were the coil springs would mount like they do on a 2x4 frame. You can simply make brackets off the side of the frame to mount them to. I think ECE just did this in one of the mags! Just found it. Sport Truck mag and it is January 08 Vol 21 pg 68-71.

I've washed my truck with the top off before. It isn't that hard, just turn the water pressure down a bit so you can control it...

+1 I've washed mine a lot with the top off. Its not that hard to control the water.

Have you thought about using a four link instead of the trailing arm setup? I think that this would yield better results. Like previously mentioned Gringoloco and a few other have done this conversion. Try the search function using "conversion". Unfortunately "2wd" is too short for the search function to find. Where are you located? That thing looks familiar.

I have thought about that. The trailing arms seem to be easier, cheaper, and closer to an original 2wd!?!? Im not too familiar with how the four link works exactly? Pictures would be a big help!? This blazer was originally my uncles in the Inland Empire, California. He bought it for i think about $1500.00 back around 1994. He drove it once and just let it sit for about ten years. During those ten years; he sold the top and moved to Colorado. Thats why the front floor pans rotted. So finally he decides to give it to me, if i go and pick it up. Because his my aunt didnt want it in their front yard anymore. So i trailered it from Colorado back to California Inland Empire.

Lookin' good.

Lemme know if you have any questions on the trailing arms. It's all bolt-in once you get it squared up and holes drilled; there's even two holes already there for the center crossmember. The only snags are the upper spring and shock mounts. You will have to fab something for the upper springs since the frame does not flare out like a 2wd. For the shocks, I just moved the original crossmember that was at the front of the leaf springs back and used it for my upper shock mounts.

For sure that you will be one of the first to know when im installing the rear arms! thanks in advance! im trying to get longbed setup from my buddys dad as i speak.


any how, some more progress pics today!

heres the top with all kind of overspray and junk on it




belly is getting pretty sanitary thanks to a couple of sharp scrapers, o yeah and me too







at first i shaved the passenger side sidemarker, i found some body filler and big waves in the panel in the near end of the pluging. so i got a different piece with my trusty hammer and chisel again.. i would like to have people vote on keeping the sidemarker lights or shaving them???

drivers side had been hit from the bottom here somehow..
almost all better now though. still not sure what im going to do with the filler neck yet??? more pics pleeaase!!!!!!!!

i changed my mind on the rear seat. im going to use a 95 suburban 3rd row bench. and i scored my front bucket seats out of a 96 suburban!

Welcome From Indiana, Look's Like You have a Good Start on your Project. I vote leave off the side Markers, I Like the Clean Look of the 67's w/out Them. Just would make Your's look a Little more Custom w/out them...........

In the middle picture I see the mounting brackets for the suburban third row seat, did you but those or make them. I bought my seats for this conversion already. I just need to mount them.

actually i cut them out of a suburban at pick a part with a hammer and a chisel. once i got them home i grinded the sheet metal where they were spot welded to make em weak, then i pryed them apart using a hammer , a chisel and a steering linkage removal tool. i then grinded down the spot welds that were still stuck to the brackets to smoothen them out. ill post the pictures up later today! heres the donor suburban
