Transmission help!
So on my truck, there is a little problem with something that connects from the spedometer/odometer cable to the transmission, it supposedly adjusts the speed so the spedometer is accurate (dont know the name of it). unfortunately it broke on the truck so the spedometer and odometer are off by some 11%? the ratio on the part said something like 1:0.9something. can i just find a turbo 400 in a junkyard and pull it off and swap it, or am I screwed? do they sell new ones?

You can get a new speedo gear from a driveshaft or rear end shop usually. I guess you could get one from a junk yard, but you'd have to know what rear gears the junkyard truck had in it, along with yours.

On some th400s ive seen this metal box type of thing that the speedo cable screws into and that in turn screws into the trans into where the speedo cable usually goes is that what youre talking about?

sort of like that, its kindof in the shape of an "L" one goes to the transmission, the other to the cable. it has some gears inside, but thats about all i know. oh, and that the one i have is broken

Find a local speedometer shop and they should have one on the shelve .
I used to work on 18wheeler's and kept a bunch at the shop because they fell apart after a few hundred thousand miles . the pice you are talking about is a reduction box to keep the speedometer accurate . also GM should have them and they are fairly cheep. |
