EGR block off plate

Have any of you experienced problems when you removed the egr valve and replaced it with an EGR block off plate.

Re: EGR block off plate

Yes my emissions went up, but the DMV ordered me to remove it, because my truck was too old to have EGR. For some reason disabling the EGR valve was not good enough for them. On top of this, I was required to buy a $15 sticker warning me not to operate above 55 MPH. for my non-functioning speedometer.

You may also get a check engine light. Why would you remove it? The thing is vacuum operated and can't do anything at wide open throttle anyway.

Re: EGR block off plate

its not computer controlled anymore so no check engine light. I removed it because even with the egr adapter the egr valve still blocked my valve covers.

I had that problem on my wifes 79 Vette I just built it up with additional spacers I think I used two. It moved it up and out of the way of the valve covers. That way if we ever go to a state where they do emission testing it will still pass.

Sounds like they need to change the name of your town.

My truck came stock with no EGR, or Evap system....it's not even on the emission sticker on the air box, however I do have to run a minumum of 89 octane, as per emission sticker......or is pings

It's a 350HD found in the 3/4, and 1 tons

Re: EGR block off plate

I'm currently making one for my truck.I have a sheet of 1/4 alum.I just used the new gasket as a template.I have used this before on several other engine projects with no trouble.Mine had been blocked off what apears to be sometime ago.Drives with no side effects.A working egr system from what I have seen does not have a negative affect on proformance.I think it clutters up a intake.

Re: EGR block off plate

Well, I did move since then.
Funny thing is Freedom was Whiskey Hill back it the day, but in 1877 the name was changed to Freedom in some attempt to be more PC,. but this may be a bit tongue in cheek, as it was likely named in honor of the 'Flag of Freedom' saloon.

Re: EGR block off plate

Two different vehicles had problems with part-throttle pinging when the EGR systems were deactivated. Any difference in performance was imperceptible.

Re: EGR block off plate

my truck did this when my timing was set at 9 degrees base timing, and with 87 octane. I reset it to 7 degrees, ( 1 degree above factory), and run 89 octane as per my emission sticker, problem solved
