Hi all I have a 64 3/4 ton 4x4 that im trying to do a brake job on and I cant get the driver side rear drum off. I got all the other 3 drums off with no problem. I have backed the shoes off all the way and taken the retainer nuts off. The drum pulls out about an inch then stops and the shoes are not stuck to it. It pulls right over the shoes without rubbing them but it stops no matter how hard I pull or pry with a pry bar on it. I have no idea what is holding it on? Please help!!

check your studs you could have a bent one i have run into this before. or try pulling axel out with it. good luck

The drum has probably rusted itself to the center part of the axle. If you have access to a torch, you can heat the drum up and that will cause it to expand away from the axle. Some times they are so rusted to the axle, they will make a popping sound when it separates. You may also need to back your brakes off more.

since it is a 3/4 ton I have to pull the axels first before the brake drums can come off which I already did I just dont know whats holding it on. Today I used a bar and pryed off the shoes off the studs to see if that would help. It still only pulls off about an inch!! help!!

it is possible that one of the bearings is galleded to the axel housing you might try a slide hammer.

Today I finallly got the drum off!! I used a puller on the drum to get it off. The oil seal pulled out the back of the drum and the inner bearing was stuck to the axel. I had to heat up the bearing with a torch to get it off. Hopefully I can get new bearings for it. How much can I turn the front and rear drums down the rear drums have some deep groves. Also how do I get the outer bearings out of the rear drums? Thanks for all your help!!
