Wing window glass removal

How anyone attempted this yet? It looks like it may be glued in there. I checked the FAQ's, but didn't see anything

Re: Wing window glass removal

How about you just replace it? (whole unit/wing window)
Might be easier.

Edit:
Should of mentioned I have a couple I can send you is what I meant.

Re: Wing window glass removal

I am doing mine right now with all new glass from LMC and most people say the new "units" dont fit real well but let me tell you the rebuild kits are not that great ether. Next time I might try the UNIT way and see how that is. Also I ordered new vent glass and door glass only to find they only make LH side's and sell them as sets. All this means is the Safty glass etching is on the inside on the LH and on the out side of the glass on the RH side. I called LMC to complain that they sent me 2 LH glasses and they said nope! that is what you get period!!! I was pissed with their customer service and the way I was treated will never order thru them agian.

Sorry off rant, since I was replacing mine with new glass I just set it over a trash can and beat the glass until it broke (not and easy task with out my spring loaded center punch) then cleaned out the rubber and the chanel and started over again. I have been told to use clean motor oil for setting the new glass into the rubber.

Glad I gave you a chance to get up on your soap box, I wouldn't want to be the one to cross you LMC gets flamed again

So, if I understand you correctly, pressure is the only thing that holds the glass in to the channel?

Re: Wing window glass removal

They actually make an auto glass removal tool for that, but its probably not cheap. Its kind of a glass installer tool only.Originally the glass was held in with a rubber-clothlike material and when you replace them you just kind of drive it in with a rubber mallet. Alot of installers now days just glue them in with urethane.A local glass shop could probably hook you up for a reasonable price.I like to do stuff myself,so you dont have to fix someones mistake.Good luck.

Re: Wing window glass removal

Breaking tempered glass is easy if you strike it on the edge with a hammer.

Re: Wing window glass removal

Just removed clear glass from a pair of vents and replaced with tinted.I clamped the glass in a rubber padded vise and smacked the frame of the glass gently with a block of wood and hammer.I had four vents to remove glass from.Every one popped right loose from the frame.Went to local glass shop and got the correct rubber packing.Put the rubber around the edge of the glass first and push into place.Flip the vent over and put the edge of glass on a small board.Use a deadblow hammer or rubber mallet and tap the frame on,trim the excess. Its really not to bad and you dont have to break anything.
