Manual trans.w/a z'd frame

How hard would it be to run a manual trans. with a z'd frame?
how would you do the clutch linkage?

my frame is Zd' 3 1/2" and I have a 4 speed with a hydaulic clutch. watch how much you Z, the previous owner done a doozy on the truck I got, wiper motor sits on top of distibuter cap. You also have to modify the x member so the driveshaft clears. check out www.porterbiltstreetrods.com for the right way to slam your truck.

I was thinking a 4" Z will that cause any problems with a small block? I am going to run a 250 6cyl. for awhile but i dont want to have to do any mods to put the sb in. What type of hydraulic clutch are you guys running and where are you mounting it at? (pictures if possible) Thanks

It's a 3 speed but I'm going to put a floor shifter in.

My '62 came stock with the hydraulic clutch. It uses a dual chamber master cylinder. One is for the brakes, the other for the clutch. The m.c. is connected to a slave cylinder that's mounted on the bell housing, which actuates the clutch fork.

If converting to discs on the front and factory drums on the rear, you will need a power brake booster, as well as, a dual chamber master cylinder with a porportioning valve. The factory dual chamber master cylinder may not work in conjunction with this setup.

CPP and several other aftermarket truck parts suppliers offer the power brake booster, dual chamber master cylinder and the porportioning valve, all designed to work in conjunction with each other.

Yes, that is what I have. It's pretty expensive, but a huge time saver. Just bolt it up and go. The only thing I don't like is how far it sticks out from the firewall. The CPP unit just uses a generic Wilwood m.c. for the clutch. You can make your own setup (see the 2nd pic for an example), but it takes some creativity to get the pedal linkages setup.

That's a nice looking setup you have. It looks like I am doing the same thing that you have done already! So if I understand correctly...
1. If i keep my drum brakes w/drop spindles i can use a stock duel chamber M.C.
2. if i want disc brakes i need a aftermarket D.C M.C power booster

^Simply put, yes, your assumptions are correct. However, there's a lot more to it. I'm betting your bell housing is not setup to accept the slave cylinder and your clutch fork is probably on the driver's side? You would have to fab. a bracket to mount the slave cylinder. It's kind of hard to make out, but if you look just below the starter and to the left in the pic you can see the slave cylinder.

Your right! So If I understand correctly I have 3 choices....
A. Get a new bellhousing with a pass. side clutch fork.
2. make a bracket for my driver side clutch fork.
3. Buy a automatic transmission!!
