Just Curious
Anyone know why the front track on my Blazer is about 2 inches wider than the rear? (Aside from the obvious 'cause that's the way they made them)

Re: Just Curious
My understanding is it was for added stability.

Re: Just Curious
Several theories out there...
Stability as mentioned. Traction for off road has been talked about to. The latest one I recently heard was because they were made that way. Yeah really, GM being what they were just bought up an existing production run of axles, the axles were wider than the front but they installed em anyway. So basically as the story goes..."they got a deal". |

Re: Just Curious
This is the one I always have heard, cause your tires are not inline
it gives you added traction with the offset footprint when offroad.

This sounds accurate to me given the lack of consistency in these trucks. I think a lot of decisions were based on what was available.

Re: Just Curious
My Understanding Was Always That Your Front Was Always In A Different Rut Than Your Rear So You Alway Got Some "side Bite"from Some Of Your Tire
The Whole They Got A Deal Thing I Dont Know About The Big Three Usually Give Specs To The Manufacturer But Back When They Started The Casting It Could Be True Because There Isnt Much Diff From A Dodge Dana 44 And A Gm Dana 44 Heck Dana Might Have Told Them This Is What We Got Make It Work Or Spend A Zillion Dollars And We Will Retool Just For You Its Possible |
