Obtaining Title for Georgia Truck
I just bought a 67 without a title ( couldnt turn it down ) it had Georgia Plates from 96 on it . What I was wanting to know is if anyone from Ga knows how much trouble it is to get a title . I know in Ga 1986 & newer year models have to have a title . The guy I bought it from in SC wrote me a BOS . If I had the registerion from it I think I could get a SC title with a Notirzed BoS . I have a title for the 67 Chevy but dont want to take the plates off . Help me out if you can Dont want to start on it till I get a title

Go down to your tag office and ask them if they have state title transfer paper work. It will explain how to get the the new title by what you need to send in. I went through the same thing here in Fl. I bought a truck form a guy in Miami that was from his deceased brothers in Georgia.

Re: Obtaining Title for Georgia Truck
you dont need a title jus a bill of sale. when you take the bill of sale to the ag office give it to them and theyll give you the tag an registration for it. unless you just want to have a tittle for it. in that case go to the tag office and ask them. but you dont need it. ive got 2 vechicles with out titles that are legally mine.

Re: Obtaining Title for Georgia Truck
yeah if everything was legit with the sale. just make another bill of sale and sign it and take it to the tag office. i think it would work fine. but you might want to ask them what they need.. if its a title they can tell you hoe to get one.

Re: Obtaining Title for Georgia Truck
I live in Georgia and when I bought my '63 back in '03 all I needed was a bill of sale due to the trucks age. The guy signed his name on it saying he sold a '63 Chevy C10 Pickup to me for the amount we agreed on and signed and dated it. The insurance company and the tag office at the courthouse didn't have a problem with it not having a title either because of its age.

Re: Obtaining Title for Georgia Truck
the thing some of you aren't realizing, in most states, a vehicle with no title can not be registered, or legally owned. If he has no title to hand over to the DMV, then there is no title to put into his name, and the DMV won't just fabricate one from a piece of paper that says jim sold bob a truck for 1200 bucks.

Re: Obtaining Title for Georgia Truck
that may be but in ga ...they will..haha. go to your dmv and ask them what you have to do to get the truck retitled. i know guys have to do that building the traditional rods. stuff thats 1932 and has been passed around like crazy. they have to have the car inspected and what not an they give them a title and its tagged. i would say your best bet is to ask your local office. where the truck will be tagged.. they would know. cause it is different in each state. good luck man.

Re: Obtaining Title for Georgia Truck
i can confirm this. they tagged my truck with only a bill of sale. i brought the title in along with it, signed, ready to go, and the woman told me, "don't need the title, unless you want to pay $35 extra to transfer it. bill of sale is all you need in state of GA for something that old".
i still wound up sending in the title anyway, but ...

If that doesn't work, check out this thread
I've used this guy before, and it worked like a champ here in VA.
