Help with 4/6 drop kit!!!
I am considering getting a 4/6" drop kit from early classic, or the grand slam kit from CPP. The airbag guy down at the local custom truck shop just put this kit on a '69 chevy c10 and said the front needed new upper control arms, among other little bits not included in the kit. Does anyone here have any experience with the 4/6 kit and what was involved? I am planning on getting disc brakes with 2.5 drop spindles either at the same time or a little while later than the shocks. Anyone help? What would be the best way to slam my truck (other than airbags) on a budget?

Im running a 5-8 and I had previously installed longer upper control arm attaching bolts so that the proper amount of shims could be used.
Now you say 4-6 and that can be done a number of ways like a 1" coil and a 3" spindle OR a 2.5" spindle and a 2" coil which neither should cause alignment issues. I say go for the 4-6 than after its all on and working and driving with proper clearances,tire sizes shocks and bumpstops run it for a while and it that suits you enough that you think you can go lower all the way around its easily converted.

The 4/6 kit from ECE contains drop spindles and will only work with the drop spindles. As far as needing new upper control arms, I would that would depend on how bad of shape the ones you have are in. Pretty much you just unbolt everything, put in the new springs, add the new spindles and lowered shock mounts and the super trac bar and your set. I'm planning on buying the 4/6 kit from ECE and actually making it a 4.5 in the front.
I've never called CPP, but according to their website the rear drop can only go to a 5" drop. I've called ECE and they are great to talk with. If you decide to go with ECE talk with Stan, and order over the phone. You'll probably get a better price than if you just order via the web. I hope this answers your question, there's a lot of guys that are running different variations of the 4/6 kit.... 1" coil 3" drop spindle, 2.5" spindles, rear springs with blocks..... the options are endless.

I know someone (sort of) with a 63 stepside and he has 2.5 spindles coupled with 3"springs. The bumper is quite low and this is what I'm going for. Would I be able to get away with the spindles and 4 inch springs or is this too much. The guy down at the shop said the camber was way too bad to drive in the front which made the control arms necessary.

For my area, Missouri, you could run that low, but you would beat the front of the truck to he$#. For my truck I'm only going to run 4.5" in the front any lower I would go with bags for the adjustability. Maybe if you use the new tubular control arms you might be able to swing it that low, but I would just run bags before I ran tubular arms with springs... my $.02.

More than 3" springs is generally too much to compensate for camber alignment. Your lower control arms also start running at an upward angle and bump steer becomes a problem because of the angle of your tie rods. Not to mention how close the control arms will be to the ground with drop spindles- they would drag on everything. I'm not sure anyone even makes a 4" drop spring for the front...
I would duplicate your buddy's setup if you like how it looks. Your front wheel/tire choice will become critical at that amount of drop though. Good luck!

I'm running stock 16.5s right now but after the discs are on and the 6 lug posi rear end is bolted up I'm planning on getting 18's and MAYBE 20's in the future but $$$wise no larger than 18's. Where can I get the tubular control arms other than ebay, or are the ones on eBay sufficient?
