8 lug wheel options
My truck has wagon wheels and they need to go. I want to go with an old school wheel but there aren't many options. I would use a stock set of wheels and caps, but they are hard to find for 1968 3/4 ton(at least on around here), or a set of wide slots, they too are hard to find. Lets see your old school 8 lug wheels and are there any suggestions I haven't thought of.....

Re: 8 lug wheel options
The old slot mags would be awesome, but they only come in 16.5 dia. And 16.5 tires are going to become extinct or very hard to find. Good luck. If you change your mind on 'old skool' check out the late model silverado wheels. Do a search and you will find they look GREAT on these trucks. Good Luck.

Re: 8 lug wheel options
They`ve been saying 16.5s are disappearing for about 20 years.Yey,they are still around.I bought a set of slots and tires in`88 and never wore the tires out by`04.On a pleasure vehicle they`ll last forever.

Re: 8 lug wheel options
Depending on your tastes there are a large number of high quality wheel sets on Craigslist. With the recent, and rapidly dying, trend for lifted F-250's and Chevy HDs there are a lot of 8 lug aluminum rims (18s-20s) available.
Personally I am running mid-90's Suburban stock wheels. They are steelies with hub caps. Mark

Re: 8 lug wheel options
Got the slots for $40 off craigslist...NFS! The "after-market" 9.75 x 16.5 steel wheels are another favorite of mine.

Re: 8 lug wheel options
Scotch brite and then Mothers. I don't care for the "polished" look...I like the clean "satin" finish. The first set came like that...this set didn't.

Re: 8 lug wheel options
1968 was the last year of the optional 19.5" wheel. Stand out from the crowd with a set of real old school truck wheels that accept the correct hubcap. This one is correct color silver for '68.Sure, hard to find, but what good stuff isn't.(what else did you expect from factorystock?)

Re: 8 lug wheel options
factorystock, Those are pretty cool. I have a set of 16" split rims I will clean up and run for a "stock" show (there were on the SPID). The problem with them (don't ask how I know) is that your expensive stainless NOS caps sit outside the wheel and tire profile where they can get damaged...LOL! Install caps after you get to the show!
TRI-PRO...you are too generous...and too far away!

Re: 8 lug wheel options
Hey tri-pro i will take you up on the rims. Are they slots? The tires on my wagon wheels are mint, they still had the blue wash on the letters when I got them from the junk yard. Thats the only reason i'm runnin the wagon wheels. I have been on your site a few times lookin a sheet metal, good stuff. If the rims work out, I will be picking up some cab corners and rockers, etc.. while I'm up at yer place.

Re: 8 lug wheel options
farmer...pig farming must be very luctrative to afford those guys. I considered that but when I saw their prices...I panicked. I could buy an old lathe and do it myself for what they wanted to charge me...LOL!
BTW...I can't wait to see your pics!
