My poor 72 doors

They have served us for many miles. These are the original doors off my 72 that my parents bought new in August of 71. My dad gave it to me when I turned 16 now 35,I drove it through high school and up to about 2003. Today I was taring them down to see what else I need for my new doors. What do you guys think??

I think new doors would be a good investment for your truck

Re: My poor 72 doors

wow.. those are alot worse then my 69. Looks like the hinges mounting point had the same thing happen that happened with mine. My PO *grandpa* just welded the hinge to the skin over and over. Man it took like 2 hours worth of cutting to get that thing off. I used some left over scrap from the origonal floor that i cut out to make a patch. Keep as much of truck in the truck. It seemed right. Heres mine.

New door for yours for sure. Thats just ruff. From what i've seen, replacing the lower portion of the doors is not fun. Way too much warping.

Re: My poor 72 doors

I do have another set of doors. I am trying to save as much of this truck as possible. I would like to been able to save them, but they are too far gone. My vent window assemblies even have have rust holes in the bottom channels.

Jayharrell, my driver's side had been fixed one time around the upper hinge area about 20 years ago,it held for awhile.

Re: My poor 72 doors

Speeking of doors. I put the rattle rubber on the outside, felt on the inside yesterday

And today i notice that the door has warped out about 1/4 inch on the outside, peaking the bow about 2 inches from the vent window.

Its messing up my gap and folding the rubber down when i roll the window down.

Have you seen this before?? I thinking about making some sort or braket and just weld it to the outside skin on the inside of the door. The just run a long bolt from the inside to that litle braket.

Is the mystery bolt on the door under the vent window on the 72 doors for this issue???

Re: My poor 72 doors

Jayharrell, if i'm an understanding you correctly, that is a problem that some 67-71 truck doors had. In 72 they put a dimple in the doors below the vent window with a screw that runs through from the inside of the door to the outside to keep the the door from seperating.

Too Much Stuff, I hear you there. The west coast and southern guys are lucky

Re: My poor 72 doors

Figured thats what that dimple was for. Looks like his 69 will get some more ''customizing'' aka, welding some more stuff on it. LOL.

72Super, those arn't the doors on the black and white truck in the other thread is it??? You must have a couple of these trucks *seems i'm the only guy that has just one*

Re: My poor 72 doors

There comes a point in time when stuff just has to be scrapped. I agree i would do the original donor doors thing. I won't buy any repop.
