Can I get rid of the regulator box?
When switching to the internal alternator can i get rid of the core support mounted regulator and remove those other two wires from the harness? I'm trying to clean things up a little. Thanks!

If you do convert to internal reg, you will need to crimp the blue and brown wires together at the regulator, and you can get rid of the white wire. Yes you can ditch the regulator.

Okay, that is what I thought. So the red power wire just terminate it. It isn't powering anything except the regulator. Thanks guys!

Shawn, you do not want to terminate the red wire! It will still carry current from the alt to the bat. Your blue wire will become the wire that feeds the volt gauge, and excites the internal regulator after you connect it to the brown wire at the harness where the wires used to connect to your V.R., and then connect the other end of the blue wire to terminal #1 on the alt. The white wire will no longer be needed, so tape up the end, or remove it from the harness. You will have to make a short jumper wire to go from the big "bat" terminal to terminal #2 on the back of the alternator, that wire will power the alt.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I was talking about the red wire going to the external voltage regulator. If I connect the blue and brown wire and remove the white wire, the red wire is the only one left going to the V.R., so it wouldn't be powering anything. That is what I meant by removing the red wire. Thanks for looking out for me though. SHawn

The post for the internal alt is the quick and easy way. Heres what i did on mine with an internal and a HEI. Basically redrew the diargram, and then altered the harness to it while i had it out. Didn't take more then an afternoon. It worked out great. This way i don't have alot of loose wire in the loom cluttering up things and any hanging around able to hit the fender well or heat up.
I just had to end 1 hot red and the main junktion, remove the white to the alt, and end a ground. Its a little unfinished, but might work.

Gosh...I dunno, it took me all of 10 minutes to the minor wire swaps and make the change over to internal reg, including time to swap the alt. and it did not cost a dime...other than the alternator that is.
