Nice Seats, but problem
I scored a new Lexus SUV leather bench seat. I know from my earlier thread a stock bench seat is right about 60" wide and these guys are 53 1/2 wide. I'm not worried about brackets, I'm worried about centering the bench in the cab and where the steering wheel be for the driver. I'd really like to use them, any thoughts?

How is the center attached? Could you spread it out a bit? Or what about taking out the center completely and basically making buckets out of em? All I could come up w/atm.

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
I thought about that, but the inside of the seats are straight not curved like the outsides.

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
But you could build a custom console in between, and it wouldn't matter!

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
That's kind of what I was thinking. Gotta get leather to match and extend the jump seat 3" on each side. I'm sure it's easier to type than do, but sounds like my best option.

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
It's just a 6 1/2" difference spread over 4 gaps. Just do 1.65" gaps between the seats and the console and that'll leave 1.65" extra space between the seats and the doors. That won't be an issue with the steering wheel... I'd at least just mock it up and sit there and see it it was an issue. 1.65" is really small...

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
I agree spread the seat out just a hair, you dont need the DS or PS against the door, so even out the spacing and it'll work and look good.

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
Try to center the drivers seat on the wheel... if you've ever spent more than 20 min in a vehicle that the seat is not centered, you won't soon forget it... esp if you already have back problems.

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
I see alot of drivers here in Baltimore City leaning over to the middle area of the seat when they drive and they don't seem to mind

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
Don't forget the ones that try to squeeze in between the outside of the driver's seat and the door! I always have to look twice to see if anyone is actually driving!!

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
chevychase, I'll be honest with you, they sorta look too fancy for our trucks. But, man, they sure look comfortable.
I'd do the spreading evenly, as recommended, to minimize the "squeezy" look. An inch or inch and a half between the consol and the seats wont make them look weird... I don't think. If you mock them up, show us a pic. I looked at some Lumina bucket seats at the junkyard yesterday that I thought would look great in my 69. Could have even used the long center consol but they were maroon in color and I need something in green. |

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
Thanks for all the suggestions and comments. I guess I wont know much until I set them in the cab. I'll definitely post pics when I do.

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
nice fancy seats man. I know they are super comfortable. Are those the ones with the heating and cooling system in them?
I'd help ya out with making a custom one off center console. I am pretty sure I can get matching leather. I redid some front seats for a guy's lexus a few months back. The leather and vinyl that we got was a dead on match for the stock material on the doors and in the back. |M|

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
You could probably the widen the padding around the console a little for not that much.

Re: Nice Seats, but problem
Yeah, I think that's probably gonna be the best and easiest way.
