Big Block Casting #? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I pulled a 454 out of a 78 Royal Sierra to transplant into my truck, but when I went to find the casting # it only had this: 861959

Looked on mortec BBC castings page and didnt find anything. Just trying to find out the info on the block. If it helps I can get the VIN number tomorrow.

Any info is appreciated.

I pulled the same out of my '79 dually. The book said '73 Chevelle & fullsize,and '73-'79 light duty truck.

I'm finishing mine now... should be starting it this week... waiting for a decent day to come up first. 361959 is a "pass"-enger car block. It was put in trucks too though. Mine had 781 heads on it which are ovals and great heads. Some massaging, bigger valves, etc and they'll be great flowing heads.

I think I might have made a mistake and read the numbers wrong. I probably mistook the 3 for an 8, because there was alot of grime to get through. Ill check when I get home. thanks for the help guys. and great looking motor 87Lowrider

probably so... I never found any casting numbers starting with 861... I had to wirewheel the casting number to see it clearly. Initially, I thought it was 361858, but for my 42nd birthday, I got a pair of reading glasses

nice one , was the truck setup for the big block originally ?

If you're asking me, no, it wasn't. But, I didn't have to change anything to get the BBC put into it. Motor mounts from the '76 (which I actually replaced with new) were identical and fit perfectly over the mounts on the frame.

Of course, being a '87, I had to eliminate all of the TBI harness connections that I didn't need anymore. I just tucked them away since I may upgrade it to TBI in the future, I'm not sure yet.

Since it is soooooo low to the ground, I had to replace the front springs which had been cut by 2 loops. I put different springs in that had only 1 loop cut out and it still sits about 1 1/2" higher in the front than it did with the 350 in it. But, it doesn't drag over speed bumps any longer either.

Man, what a difference in torque and power!

Here's an updated pic with some minor upgrades to the jewel:

i have a partstruck ith a 454 in it doesnt run yet (carb is giving me probs might be the 5 year old fuel thats still in there )
i was planning on putting that one into a truck now fitted with a 350 thats why i asked , i'm too lazy to bold the crossmember out from under the donor , i prolly will switch the radiator though
