Rear End Question
I am looking at buying a 1985 1/2 ton GMC Suburban and will be parting it out cause it was taken off the road as unroadworthy cause of the rust. My question is depending on what rear end it has and I'm assuming it will have a 10 bolt with 3:08's unless I get real lucky ( I should check my horoscope) and find a 3:42 posi, other than having to attach (weld) the trailing arm saddles to the rear end, will it go into my 72? I guess what I need to know is it the same length as the original in my 72.

Rear End Question
I am buying an 85 GMC Suburban and am going to part it out. I am assuming it has a 10 bolt rear end with 3:08 gears, unless I get lucky and it has a 3:42 posi. Other than having to weld the saddlles for the trailing arms on the Burb rear end, is it the same length as the original one in my 72 and will it just bolt in?

Re: Rear End Question
same length. It'll bolt on after you weld on the mounting pads. Also will need a panhard bar mount on the pumpkin.

Re: Rear End Question
Thanks for the info. I forgot about the panhard bar. Where would I get a panhard bar mount and how does it attach?

Re: Rear End Question
The stud for the panhard bar is a part of the rear end (pumpkin housing). You may try calling ECE and see if the have a bracket for a stock set up or ECE also has a Super Track Bar for $109.00 and it goes from the D/S Frame to the P/S trailing arm. Good Luck, Harry

Re: Rear End Question
I am 99% sure it is. Take a tape measure and double check it that's the main reason you are buying it.

Re: Rear End Question
Thanks for the advice. I also put a message on the 67/72 board and was told it will bolt in but I will check the measurement first. I was also told I will need to do something with the panhard bar cause the Burb rear end doesn't have the stud for the panhard bar to attach. I really didn't want to go this route ( using a used rearend ) but with cost of gas going the way it is ,its either try to get a little better mileage or sell the truck and I RRREEEAAALLLYYY do not want to do that.
