Gmc V6 305

Hey guys, looking for a v6 to put back into my 64 gmc. The original was "donated" to another build before I got the truck. They are harder to find than I thought. Any idea on where I can find one/some?? Even one that needs a total going through. A pic of what one looks like would be cool too if anybody has one...

Here's one on E bay see auction no. below, but it looks a bit far from you (michigan). If you watch E bay, they come up periodically as folks pull them up to put in a small block Chevy As you can tell, I am a GMC guy.

Here is another one on this site. A 351 V6 is a bolt in for your 305. This one is on the wrong coast, however. Keep looking as GMC V-6's pop up fairly often on Craigslist and on E bay as well.

Hey Wolfinthesnow, I'm glad to see you putting back the original engine. My 64 burb was originally a 305 V6, but at some point in the past, it was switched to a 283. I have a love of old engines for some reason, and I also like after-market fuel injection (having put it on my straight 6). If a V6 dropped in my lap, I'd love to give try at fuel injecting it for my burb. The only downside is I can't see it getting good mileage, even with an overdrive tranny, so I'll probably go LSx. Plus, those old V6s are awfully heavy compared to the Chevy engines.

Ask the guys over on Jolly's board for ideas on where to find one, they're the experts in these engines today.

If I was buying one, I would find a 351. It is a far better engine. You also might try www.stovebolt.com . I have seen a few over there.

The nickel content of the block is similar to the Caddy engines of the 60s. If you don't run them down the road wide open they will easily over 200,000 miles.

I do like the gmc guys site. Alot of neat stuff. Did GMC put a straight 6 in these trucks? im finding that the chevy straights are easier to come by.

Yes, they did offer the in-line. 64 would have been the 230. In 66 one could get the 250 or 292. The 250 is readily available and you can't tell the difference without running the numbers. The 292 block is about 2" taller, but a lot more powerful and durable.

I had a 305 v 6 in my 63 4x4 I used to own. It was an awesome motor!! Wish I still had it. It definitly has the cool factor!

I love my 305, it actually has really good pickup and go. I just need to clean it up.. It's got the original GMC red paint, so Im going to keep it that way!

Sorry guys, been away for a bit. No, my search still continues. I was originally wanting to big block the truck, but I like the looks and nostalgia (hope I spelled it right of the old v6s. Still looking so if you guys know of any in or near Fl, let me know please. Now what would really be sick is to drop a gmc V12 into it. Anyone ever seen one of those beasts in a 1/2 ton?

Wolfinthesnow,the 702 was used in the really BIG trucks!You'd have to jack the cab up on a 1/2 ton just to get it in!
GMC also offered other V-6's as well as diesels.
The 702 is actually one block with 2 sets of 351 heads,intakes,carbs,etc.and I would like to own one!

Believe me, you dont want a V12 at any price.It may be worth the trip to Michigan (rent a UHaul pickup) for ebay #270251978936. It looks like a low mileage and complete engine ( has rare original paper air cleaner ) probably spin on oil filter too.You know the history on this one and you wont have to spend money on a rebuild.Parts are not easy to find with this engine, so getting a good running low mileage engine can save you a lot of time and headaches.

Man, the V12 - 702 is cool, but at something like 1400 lbs, that might be a WEE bit heavy for the front of a half-ton. Plus, I can imagine the 7 foot long fenders and hood necessary to contain it....

Did you see this 401V6 in Florida? Looks like a rebuild may be in order, but a 401 should bolt in where your 305 came from.
