Muffler Recommendations

I am thinking about redoing the dual exhaust on my 83. I'm looking for something loud and with a deep rumble, but nothing too loud or over the top. Any recommendations on which mufflers to use?

Don't Use Flowmasters They Sound Ok At First But After Awile They Are Just Annoying. Specially At Highway Speeds.my Next Set Will Be Magnaflows A Buddy Has Them On His Truck And Its Sound Great Like A Muscle Car Low Rumble At Idle Loud When You Get On It And Decent At Cruising Speed.

I run dual Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow with an H pipe. Dual pipes exit under the rear bumper. I have long tube headers as well. The sound is not annoying at all and it calms right down at cruising speed. I'd say it's just enough to satisfy, but not so much that it's annoying. Has that old school muscle car sound because I don't have catalytic converters and I run long tube headers.

I had Hooker Aero Chambers on my '75 K10 and it sounded great. not too loud.

I put dual true truck mufflers on my 402 powered 72 Longhorn. Made it sound like a C60, not too loud unless you really got on it, and no back pressure. But kind of heavy.

I had 50 series FM on my 383 powered S-10. Hedman shorty headers, 2 ½ pipe, pair of 50 series side by side along the right frame rail under the bed, pipes exited just under the roll pan. The sound was good, and highway sound in the cab was OK. I was just tired of sounding like every other car/truck at a cruise-in. I switched to a pair of Magnaflows. I really like the sound and I sound different than the other guys. But, they’re really annoying at cruise speed in the cab.

I really think a mufflers’ sound can be different depending on the most minor placement issue. If I had a lift and gobs of money I’d play with the exhaust some and try to find the sweet spot.

i have dynomax "race" series mufflers on mine. I ran a set of long tube headers with 1.5" primaries to a 3" collector then shrunk it down to 2.5" and made an X pipe to the 2 mufflers and went over the axle and dumped off to the corners. It sounds great my cousin has an exhaust shop so he tries to always make my cars sound as good as possible its kind of like his business card.

p.s. Stay away from the cheap flowmasters at first they sound pretty good then they just fall apart inside. i put dynomax on all my cars.

I've got FM super 44's on my truck......they sound awesome, but you better like it loud.

I personally like my Flowmaster 40s on my truck. I run duals with 2 1/2 inch pipes to the rear. The rumble is great and the sound is far enough back that the truck is not too loud for the driver. I have run some Magnaflow mufflers---BE SURE to buy the top quality muffs from them. The ones that I ran had pin holes in them in just under two years each. I took my DD 91 Silverado to a Flowmaster (3" single in and two 2 1/2 outlets) and it is now over two years and going strong.

I like the Dynomax Super Turbos alot. I also like the CherryBomb Vortex mufflers

I think you would like the Flowmaster 50 series. I used to have 40's on my truck, and they sounded great, but I didn't like the in-cab resonation much. Got to be a little loud. The 50's are supposed to be quieter inside.

Yeah I have a cheaper Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler with a 350 and the stock Y-pipe, its not too loud and sounds mean, but it was like $30 at Autozone so i dont know how it will last..

i have hooker headers with 2 1/2 pipe going into flowmaster 40's then dumping out the sides right in front of the rear tires.



every time i start my truck it brings a smile to my face.

I kept the converter and got rid of the muffler low rumble but you can still hear the radio.

My truck doesn't have converters so mufflers are a must.

I installed a set of "Purple Hornies" on the 454 temporarily until I could get it down to the muffler shop. They're header mufflers. Got 'em from Summit. Inexpensive and LOUD! - /Kenny

I had the same setup on my truck for awhile. I actually drove that way for 3-4 months. Loud, but actually quite nice sounding. No nasty glasspack sound at all.

I like the flowmaster and magnaflow setups. Just depends on what exactly you are looking for. I am a headers guy so and I also love the deep rumble when you start it and when you get on the gas pedal.

I have true dual 2 1/4 super 40s dumped at the mufflermwith hooker headers it has a deep loud rumble at slow speeds that sets off lots of car alarms.

BORLA also sounds GREAT. Be different,MOST are using flowmasters. Yes they sound great,but they are like TRI-5 chevies....THEY are EVERYWHERE!
