Welding advice requested...
Hello fellow enthusiasts....
I have followed your advice before and been well pleased. This is the best board on the NET!! I've currently had to stop progress on my 69 C10 because an drunk idiot backed into my son's 69 Olds Cutlass which has placed my truck on hold until I get his car repaired. The car is a unibody and has unique challenges when performing a "quarter-ectomy" My scenario is... The Olds sustained the hit right at the rear quarter just millimeters from the door continuing all the way over to the trunk. I have the old metal removed and have a quarter skin from Year One. The skin doesn't have the bend in the metal where it meets the rocker panel. Instead, it just goes down to the pinch weld at the bottom of the car covering up the rocker. My question is....How do I attach the panel to the car without this bend. It just doesn't look right covering up the rocker. Thanks in advance for your help and support...You guys rock!!!! alright well yes a pic would help alot.
im trying to grasp what you are saying is the new skin overlapping your rocker or is the no skin not contoured (curved) like the body? either way i would trim either or (i would trim the replacement) to fit. then if possible get some Metal clamps and hold it on there to see what it may look like. then start tacking. good rule of thumb is to tack in the star type pattern (like on wheels) to much heat in one spot will ruin sheet metal. and inch (almost literally) tacks and hammering until its on there. grind and repeat. oh yes very small tacks at first (like wont hold good) just in case you mess up.

cut it so it fits and like said above just spot weld it in place, spreading the welds an inch apart and keep a cool wet rag on hand to rub on the panel so as to keep it cool so it doesnt warp
