question on removing front crossmember - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

OK,

Never done this and I just want to be safe. When you removed the front cross member with everything in place on it, do you need to chain down the springs, or will they stay compressed between the two a-arms? I just want to make sure I don't have to make a trip to the local human repair shop.

springs are in a bucket in the xmember so they wont go anywhere, go ahead yank her out.

Sweet, I just picked up a 78 Burb member that is in great shape (doesn't even need the brakes re-done) and I just wanna drop it in there. I popped it out of the burb at the outer tie rod ends (where they connect to the spindles) so I am just going to pull the other member hopefully tonight and move forward. I am still waiting on my shipment of por-15 so that is the only thing that may slow me down!

you will have to drill a few holes to bolt the new crossmember back in, no big deal, youll see em when you get there.

You should grab the rear axle, if you can, and it probably had rallies on it, too.

Mine got the axles, engine, trans, the works out of a 'burb.
