65 Disassembly has started
Well I had a starter go out and some other things so I decided it was time to just keep going and take it apart to start from scratch. Here are some pics of as it sits now. Take a look at the inside of the motor. Its amazing how much stuff some people do to make it work, check out the electrical box for a shifter mount. The bed will be off tomarrow and the front fenders and rad support next week.

Took off more stuff tonight and more rust! Looks like I'll be doing more fab patches on the cab and two new front fenders and rad support and filler panel. Cha-ching

Re: 65 Disassembly has started
Here goes: Send body to get media blasted, clean frame install c-notch,6 lug disc brakes and bags, new gears paint all chassis black.
BODY; New front clip, fix door rot,new floor pans inner rockers, some small fab rust repair, then paint all jambs and crevaces. Then put it all back togather to paint cranberry pearl metallic off cadillac cts. As for the motor it will get a blower motor built for it but for now 355 10.25-1 comp roller thumper cam. It will be a show crusier so I guess you could say its a resto mod. Far from stock. I am hoping I can get this thing done within a years time so I will be on the hustle to do so.

Re: 65 Disassembly has started
I pulled the bed off and painted up the frame and my next plan is to strip off the front clip and cab. I'm just afraid that once I start taking off sheet metal I'll find rust and let it grow over winter.
Yeah bag them bolts and make sure you write on the bags where they go. Made the mistake of not doing that in the past on another project and it took a while to sort it out. Taking to many pictures is smart too. If you can remember take photos of how panels are aligned so when you go to put it back together you have a reference. Don't even ask how I know that one. hahahaha |

I thought I would be ok fixing some spots now its screw fixin them I'm just going to buy new like front fenders, core support, grill filler panel, inner fenders maybe. Possibly a door or two well see what they look like after media blasting. I would like to find a parts truck close to me for cheap but???

Re: 65 Disassembly has started
Well I got the motor cleaned and am going to buy some paint today so I can put the heads on. I also found out my 350 is already board.060 over making it a 360 ci and would explain why it ran on the warmer side in the summer. I'll post pics later.

Re: 65 Disassembly has started
I have used zip-lock bags before and tagged all parts, its helps so much during re-assembly. Sometimes you need those wierd funky bolts or washers you cant get at the local hardware store. Looks great so far!

Re: 65 Disassembly has started
Yeah I've had to reuse bolts before just simply because I couldn't find them again.
A lot of time I will spray the bolts with some PB blaster aka Penetrating oil and throw them in a zip lock bag so at least they are a little coated so when I revisit them they are a little easier to clean up. Most of the time I end up throwing the bolts away and replacing with newer if I can find them and if the old ones are trashed. |

Re: 65 Disassembly has started
Well I finally got power out to my shop so now I can get my lights hung and start to work on my truck again. And I already have a friend wanting me to do his cutlass for him. Hopefully this weekend I can get the garage cleaned and get some lights up and wired so I can work later in my new dog house... Only thing I got done was the intake on the motor and cleared tomarrow I make motor mounts out of stainless steel just cause we have extra.

Re: 65 Disassembly has started
No I haven't had time to mess with it yet plus its cold and I don't have the lights up yet and as far as the lights go the shop is 25x35 and for me to do the paint work I want it lit up like a christmas tree.
