Major rubbing with new spindles installed
I just installed 2.5" drop spindles (from Mcghaughy's) and now my rally's rub on the steering arm? I called Mcghaughy's and they told me you can run spindles and rally's.
Did I do something wrong with the install?

Drive it around the block a few times. It'll fix itself.

I'd run a 1/4" spacer on there for now

Re: Major rubbing with new spindles installed
X2 I wouldn't use the grinder too much, when spacers are so cheap.

Re: Major rubbing with new spindles installed
Spacers are good but I still needed to use the grinder. Also what size rims do you have? I had 15s that rubbed and locked up, so I busted out the grinder and put spacers...but I now went to 20s and I had alot more room than I did with my 15s. So if you plan on buying bigger rims you may not have to do anything.

Re: Major rubbing with new spindles installed
I've heard of this problem before, but I do have some info that might save you some trouble. I have DJM 3" spindles on the front of my truck, and I have been using 15x7 caprice ralleys to push it around the shop. The look identical (except they use a slightly "shallower" trim ring) to truck ralleys and most of all they don't rub.
here is a pic of my truck with said ralleys. They will accept a regual truck center cap - i've had them on there in the past. Last edited by smashingchuck; 08-22-2008 at 01:55 PM. |

My buddy ordered spindles from LMC and they ended up being McGaughy and neither of us could get them to fit. The spindle shaft wasnt the correct length or diameter to fit 1" or 1.25" rotors so we had to toss them. Do you have the right rotors and bearings?

I'd love to buy some new wheels/tires but my money right now is tied up in getting the blower installed and interior finished.

Re: Major rubbing with new spindles installed
The upper and lower balljoint nuts and the tierod ends use castle nuts with retaining pins . There should be a couple holes in the shaft to choose from . Definitely reinstall them because if the nuts arent installed with them in place , they can back off . Then the vibration can cause the nut to loosen and fall off and the balljoint or tierod end to come loose . Either of these can have devistating consequences . Install those pins so nothing bad happens .

Re: Major rubbing with new spindles installed
I had the same problem with 2 ½ inch Bell Tech spindles and 15 X 8 (4.25 back space) rally wheels. Used a grinder on the lower control arm, just a little and mine still rub on lock to lock turns. I wanted to use some ¼” spacers I have but I couldn’t find any wheel studs that were a little longer. Anyone have a source or part number for longer than stock wheel studs?
