Re: 65 mustang gas tank
I am about to put one out of a 69 Mustang in my 53.
I have removed the crossmember with the hump in it and added one all the way at the back of the chassis, I still need to make a frame to hold the tank to the frame. I havent worked my way back that far on the project, stil working on the steering column and brake arm!!

Re: 65 mustang gas tank
I have and I hope the picture works. I built the frame around it and it and saved a fortune over buying one from the regular suppliers. Paid $88 for the tank. Just so you know 64-69 is a 16 gallon and the 70-71 is 10 or 10.5 deep and holds 22 gallons.

Re: 65 mustang gas tank
Thanks that helps.
Where are you going to place your filler opening? Is there enough room toget it to fit behind the license plate on a roll pan with out too much trouble. I have my bed at the body shop so I have no way to mock things up, but this step is not far off!

Re: 65 mustang gas tank
What are you using for the dash fuel gauge?
What ohm sending unit is a Mustang gauge?

Re: 65 mustang gas tank
I plan on putting the gas fill in the bed floor. I think the clearance would be an issue for behind the roll pan. THe other thing to consider is the sender. I put a GM sender on the fill tube where the ford one was. I had to bend the arm on the float arm to make it work. I was given this info on the tank from an old school hot rodder. I guess this is a common tank to use based on the flat shape on top and not real deep 8.5 if I remember correctly. The tanks are inexpensive and look good mounted up. Hope this helps someone out there.

Re: 65 mustang gas tank
Again don't quote me on this but the GM ohm is 0-90 with 0 being empty and the Ford is 7-72 with 72 being empty. So if you don't change the sender the gauge won't go all the way full or empty and it would also be reversed. Hope that makes sense when you read it. That is why I tweaked my GM to fit in the Ford senders location.

Re: 65 mustang gas tank
Another great fit for the AD gas tank is the Blazer Diesel tank. I just happen to have a never used Blazer tank if anyone is interested. It's been in storage for 15 years and with a little surface rust but in perfect condition.

Re: 65 mustang gas tank
You will have to measure the angle of the transmission first, that will determine what the rear end angle will need to be.
