Tow hitch
Hi everyone I just picked up a 54 GMC 100 longbed. I don't know squat about these trucks or even carbed motors but when I saw it I just had to have it. My plans for the truck is to turn it into a fun toy/tow rig. That brings me to my first question. What are you guys using for a tow hitch? I did try to search, but didn't find any posts where anyone was even talking about towing with their truck.

Re: Tow hitch
I don't know of anyone that makes a receiver hitch so you might have to have someone make you a custom hitch. Also, just a thought, if you’re going to tow with your truck you might give serious consideration to up grading your brakes to disc.

Re: Tow hitch
my 53 has an original rear hitch that fits to the rear bumper. it's just bent metal straps that conform to the shape of the bumper. i wouldn't put more than 200 pounds on that thing. if you really want to haul like a fifth wheel you need a real heavy duty truck. your truck is similar to a chevy s-10 not really meant to hold or stop a modern trailer. nice find thou what did you pay for her?

Re: Tow hitch
tHIS IS ON MY 55 1ST SERIES SAME AS your 54.
This fits behind my roll pan and I have a flip down license plate so the 2" receiver is hidden until I need it. If you are going to load it up you will need all of the springs in the spring pack! It will tow my 18' steel flat bed but I have to watch what I load on it, besides "air"

Re: Tow hitch
most all chevy pickups from late 40s through 86 have about the same rear frame rail width so a receiver from any of these should fit with a little hole drilling and work
