Max lowness without bags

hey guys, my 79 has a 5/7 drop on it with 20s on it. im wandering what else i can do to make it lower, it has spindles and coils in thr front and flip kit in the rear with shackles. what about adding hangers in the rear for another 3-4 then cutting coils in the front? maybe a body drop? any opinions?

You can remove a spring or two from the rear... depending on what you want for a ride/drop.

Re: Max lowness without bags

The limiting factor on lowering these trucks is the front crossmember. You can only go so far before you frequently bottom out on your A-arms becuase they hang below the crossmember.

What you need to determine is what budget do you have to allot to your suspension. That will have an impact on how low you go.

If only how low you wanted to drop your truck didn't have a relevant effect you bank account.

Re: Max lowness without bags

Do you have the 20's on the front yet? It looks likeif you put them on the front you'll get a little lower. Like N2TRUX said, if you go to low in front with a static drop you'll beat the snot outa your lower control arms. I had that problem with my Burb and I had to raise it up a inch or so. Right now I have about 3 1/2" of ground clearance any lower and its bottoming out. I don't know how bad the roads are where you live but they aren't that bad here so you might want to take that into conciteration also.

Re: Max lowness without bags

yea i have some problems with the control arms as it is, but if i cut coils that wont matter on the distance, its still gonna be the same as it is now. how low is ur Burb? that thing is nice

Re: Max lowness without bags

It was originally a 4-6drop kit with 3" spindle and 1" springs then I cut a coil off the springs. the back is a 6" flip and shackles but I also replaced the leaf springs with some brand new ones so that took care of 25years worth of spring sag. Overall height from the ground to the center of the wheel well is 25" in front and 26 1/2 in back.

I already put 3" drop spindles on it I'm waiting til I do the flip on the rear and rebuild the front end before I decide on what springs are going in it.

any lower your never going to be able to align it.... anyway just my opinion concentrate on one thing at a time on your truck it will move alot quicker that way.
