What Will Work Off Of a 2005 Silverado?
What all parts can be scavenged and made to work off of a 2005 Silverado?
I am supposed to be getting the motor/tranny and everything else necessary to make it work in my truck. I know that the seats and the rearview mirror can be made to work. Anything else? BTW, I am working on a '64 that has already been converted to 5 lug disc and I am installing a 5 lug 3.42 posi 12 bolt. Nothing else is etched in stone yet. Once I get the motor I will probably be picking some of y'all's brains for advice/help(especially you guys that have done this conversion). Heck, I might as well start now! Any tips or suggestions on specific items that I need to scavenge besides the obvious(motor, tranny, wiring, ecm)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Tim |

Re: What Will Work Off Of a 2005 Silverado?
Yea, it'll be cool if I can figure out how to make it actually crank and move under it's own power. This will be my first experience with a late model conversion but I guess I won't learn any sooner.
I actually still have a Tuned Port Iroc that I bought years ago to use for a TPI conversion on my '55 that, for numerous reasons, just never got off of the ground. This go 'round though, I have made a vow to myself to make it happen so I can once I get through . Last edited by TimE; 09-03-2008 at 10:53 PM. |

Yea, I could just drive the '64 out and we could use it for reference!!

If you're getting the engine & auto tranny get the wiring harness and computer. That way you can keep the fuel injection. Also the accessories, brackets and pollution stuff. Also the gas tank, fuel pump might be useful.

This should help out....
http://www.lt1swap.com/2000harness.htm From what I have gathered, you should have the computer reprogrammed by someone familiar with doing a custom job. You can remove data from certain functions(secondary O2 for example), and have the engine run without throwing a check engine light. I believe the guy on the website listed above can do it for $75. |

Re: What Will Work Off Of a 2005 Silverado?
FredT-
The setup will be a complete takeout. All accessories are included. I intend to get the exhaust too, at least past the catalytic convertor. I will possibly get the fuel tank, if for no other reason, just to use to fire the motor once I have it installed-besides, you can never have too many spare parts. I am also going to try to get the driveshaft, fuel lines, rear view mirror, seats(if they aren't damaged too bad-roof is partially caved in), and anything else that catches my eye. I had thought about the gauges(might look neat in a custom setup??) and possibly the steering column(probably not). I dunno, I'm just tryig to get a handle on what I can make work that won't look silly in the '64. |

Re: What Will Work Off Of a 2005 Silverado?
PrerunnerRob-
Thanks for the link!! I had looked around some for the pinouts on an '05 and hadn't turned up much. I haven't had much spare "online" time in the last few days to really start diggin' for good info. I think I am going to try to use the factory harness like he shows on that site. I figure if I can't make it work, THEN I can spring for a custom aftermarket harness(but I think I can make it work!). As far as the programming, I am going to talk to a guy at a local shop and see if he can tune it for me.(Although, $75 for a base tune is a pretty good price.) I had spoken with him about tuning my Z28 and he said he would also give me a copy of the tune on disc. My plan was to then buy HPTuners and start playing with my setup and learning more about it but have the disc to fall back on if I got my tune out of whack. Now I will have a good excuse to invest in the HPTuners and dive in on BOTH vehicles! |
