Found a SWB Chevy. Need help.

Before you all bust my butt I will get pictures up after while.
I need someone to breakdown this VIN # 1GCDC14H7CS
It is just a rollin chassy no motor no transmission.
The owner didnt know the year for sure and is looking for the title,
The interior is all there but the seat is torn and the dash is cracked.
It has white spokes, the original rims are gone he thinks, he is going to look.
The best part about the truck is NO bondo.
It is VERY straight except for passenger door is pushed in on one spot no kinks though.
It is a Silverado A/C and electric windows and locks.
I see what it could be with alot of sweat equity. I am excited. I saved it as he was going to haul it off to the scrap yard next week. I just kinda spotted it from the road and decided to check into it. So it looks like $200.00 will buy it.

Ok.................. I looked at this truck in the daylight and it is rougher than I thought.(I was excited to find one and couldnt think straight) Here are some pictures. My question is can I swap out the motor and transmission and all the other missing parts etc.... from my 82 3/4 ton(pictured below) to this 83 1/2 ton and make myself a SWB which is what I want. I need your expert and honest opinion and what obstacles I might run into with the swap.

Yes, praticaly any part you would need for the SWB would be on the 3/4 ton except suspension/brake/axle parts, and of course the bed.
All other body parts are the same.
Everything in the interior should be the same*.
*you say the SWB is an '83 but the grill and front bumper are '81-82 only. Doesn't mean someone didn't swap the front clip in the past 25 years though?
The reason this might be important '81-82 had the wiper control on the dash and I think '83-84 did too. BUT, '83 might be the year they changed to the wiper control on the turn signal.

As long as you get a title you are pretty much there!

Re: Found a SWB Chevy. Need help.

The VIN is 1GCDC14H7CS. Can someone tell what year it is by this. The owner said he thought it was an 83 but he would have to look. And yes Kevinr1970 he said he had the title.

Re: Found a SWB Chevy. Need help.

Judging by the grille and the front bumper the first truck is an 81-82

Re: Found a SWB Chevy. Need help.

If your 3/4 ton cab is in better shape, it may be easier to swap that too. At least it's the same color.

I only have basic tools so the cab switch might be a little more than I can handle.

Going by the VIN#

it's a 1982 with a 305 v8.

Re: Found a SWB Chevy. Need help.

My thought is that the 3/4 ton looks a little too nice to turn into a parts
truck
I buy these truck all the time for under $1000
in decent shape- running trucks
I would be patient drive the 3/4 ton
and look for a parts truck to feed the new one
just my opinion -counts for nothing
good luck on the project

78 Chevyrado Thank you for deciphering the VIN#. I appreciate it.
impalamark...After thinking more about it & discussing it with my son I think you are right. And your opinion does count this is the type of feedback I wanted. And yes its like you know me I am not very patient...

Re: Found a SWB Chevy. Need help.

Ya I would keep the 3/4 ton one together and find a different parts one for the other one that you picked up. Sounds like you are going to have your hands full with the project should be a blast though!
