Looks pretty solid. Everything has potential, just depends on how much money/work/time you want to put into it. Find a couple partial trucks cheap, use what you need, sell what you can, and cash in the junk. If you have the time you could make out pretty good piecing one together. I have heard of guys making more money on the parts they don't need then what they paid for there parts trucks.

From what I've seen, most complete 47-55's not running or just running go for around $1000-1700. So ask yourself, Could I get everything needed (used) to complete the truck (bed, running boards, glass, doors,fenders,hood,grill, etc,etc) for around $600-1200? I don't know your skill level but to put a truck together without seeing how it went might be kinda hard. And time to locate all the parts, time looking plus shipping in some cases. This is one of those things where someone might say yes it's worth it because they might have conections to parts and experience putting them together. You could pass if your not sure and get one in good-ruff shape for $1000-2000. I'm not try'n to shoot it down by no means. I'd just hate try'n to find parts from 100 different places.

actually you can get re-pop cabs, and patch panels for just about every part of it. so if you can weld, its not that big of deal.i say go for it.

I just paid $350 for this one yesterday but I think I got really lucky.
Needs rear cab corners,floor is good. Complete doors in good shape and hardware. Heater in it, good dash, instruments are shot. 3 fenders in box. No hood. Cab is really good. I am junking my Old Navy Cab.
Looks like a brand new gas tank in it too
Tail gate is okay for a driver.

But yours is a 5 window which is worth more. I would say it's worth the $400.

i just know how much of a ***** a rusted cab is because you can get new repro parts for everything else, its just the cab that pisses me off

i would pass on this the firewall is rusted thru if you look closer. i would pay more for a more complete truck. more spent up front is better then more after. unless they will take 100 bucks

It doesn't look to be worth 400 to me but My photo shows up in the Encyclopedia under "cheap".
What might make it worth something is if it has a clear and transferable title.
With the firewall in the shape that it is in I would offer 200 if it had a clear title. Then you could buy a parts truck that had most of the missing pieces and not worry about it having a title.

You can always do as I did, Buy that truck and build the chassis with IFS, engine, rear end and complete the running driving chassis, and then buy another truck (rust free) for the title and sheetmetal, swap the sheetmetal and complete the project.

A solid cab is a good place to start so consider making an offer if this one is solid. Pricing-out the body work may help you to decide. And if you're doing the work yourself, consider your time. If it's more than you're willing to spend, expect more trucks to hit the market -- especially with the state of the economy. GM made a gazillion of those trucks. Parts are fairly easy to find if you're watching the classifieds, including Craigslist.

Hey, like this one my dash was custom smoothed too. That's cuss the dash was so rusty they had to do something around the glove box. My cab corners were also fixed but with sheet metal and bondo not with repop cab corners. At $2K and under the old navy trucks are a reasonable deal as the chrome windows and fenders are worth it. If you are paying more than that ask for close up pics of the rust points.
But back to the original post, considering the price of a new cab, don't you think a 5 window that needs a small amount of welding is worth $400? The rest of the parts are easy to get. Good cabs are tuff to find in the salt belts.

If good cabs and frames are hard to find where you are then it is worth the money. That is assuming the cab and frame are solid. Where I live that would not bring more than 50 dollars. On average I pay about 300 dollars for complete but non running 47-54 chevy trucks. The last one that I bought was a complete truck minus motor and very solid for 50 bucks. I turned around and sold it for 400. However these old trucks are getting harder to find even for me under the 500 dollar range; and nationally it seems complete but non running trucks are bringing 1500-2000. So in that perspective it might be worth buying; assuming you can get decent sheetmetal at a good price.

Did you only have a busted up rusted up cab and a chassis? If so I bow to your tenacity!

I just bought a 50 & 51 for $200. Neither are complete, both are rusty, dented, and no floors. I mostly just wanted a chasis to start with and have a few extra parts. I'll easily spend $400-$600 just for cab patch panels. It's going to take me a while because of a budget, to get a rolling chasis done and that will be plenty of time to find a complete solid body. $400 sounds too high to me.

My cousin bought an old navy truck last month. I havn't seen it in person yet, but he just had it blasted and the only bondo that was found was on the rear fenders. Very little rust, cab corners are solid. He bought it through Ebay for 1900 bones. I think he's one of the lucky ones. They come with new chrome to boot. He's gonna do the s10 swap. I told him about this forum. He should post soon.

At the least you had sheetmetal. Anyone that would suggest you use it for parting out must be crazy. Most of your stuff that was missing would probably have been stuff you would have wanted to replace anyway.

Thanx BIG CHEVY 3600! YES, MOST SHEET METAL WAS THERE! YOU ARE CORRECT! I HAVE REPLACED DRIVERS DOOR, TAILGATE, RUNNING BOARDS, FRONT BED PANEL, AND DRIVERS REAR FENDER. FUTURE PLANS INCLUDE, REPLACING, BOTH FRONT FENDERS, PASS. FENDER, FLOORS, AND CAB CORNERS.
