New truck!
Hey guys, just to compound the headaches that my crewcab build are giving me, I picked up a new to me truck to actually prove I can build it without going over the top.
I just picked up a 1965 GMC 3/4 or 1 ton(I'm not sure) fleetside longbed. It's got a 305ci V6, 4 speed floor shift, is relatively driveable, and decently solid! I'll post pictures when I have a chance, I'm hoping to do a quick clean up, and cruise it until I fix my 2nd blown up rear end in my 01 SIlverado(but that is another story entirely!) Anyone have any info on the bed wood dimensions used on these trucks? I did carpentry for 5 years, so making the bed wood should not be a problem, but I'd like to really know the dimension of the thickness of the wood. Thanks in advance! |

Re: New truck!
Hey Rob,
I know this ain't what you wanted but I came across this a while back and thought it was cool. and I would love to know how this was done. Is it just layers of real thin wood?

Re: New truck!
I figured as much. I found it on accident. I have a bad habit of visiting vendors on sites just to see what they offer and found that. I'll probably buy a kit, but knew some of you guys where a complete do it yourself kind of group so I bookmarked it.

Re: New truck!
I have been doing carpentry for over 15 years and I just use a tape measure. Any stock 3/4 wood will do. Most sizes in the racks will work. For my next bed I am going to get unmilled wood and mill it myself.
I have a feeling the flames in the bed of that truck are done the way gold leaf is done with a clear coat on top.

Re: New truck!
Maybe for the CrewCab!
Are you actually going to be able to leave this one alone and just drive it? Or will a simple brake job snowball into......
