Re: Exhaust gaskets????
i've always liked the deadsoft copper gaskets weather headers or manifolds// dont over tighten the exhaust because with wexpansion while hot they can mush cut and generally help the gaskets fail

Re: Exhaust gaskets????
COPPER! Lemons headers(Custom made to order headers)recommends copper. It is flat and NEVER leaks.

Re: Exhaust gaskets????
Copper.
I got tired of burning/blowing out exhaust gaskets. I finally went to copper & haven't had a problem since. I developed an exhaust leak when a header bolt backed out. I retightened the bolt, the leak went away and the gasket was fine. That's my.02

Re: Exhaust gaskets????
I have heard from some people not to even use gaskets between the exhaust manifold and the head...just tighten down real well.

Re: Exhaust gaskets????
the question can't be answered till the OP answers lowriden's questions.
We also need to know if he is talking about gaskets on top, to the head, or on the bottom, to the pipe. |

Re: Exhaust gaskets????
I've got a manifold leak right now and I'm planning on redoing the exhaust all the way back using the stock headers.
So, would a copper manifold gasket be the best choice? And what would be the best choice for a flange gasket at the pipe? Part numbers are appreciated if you have them This would be on a stock '71 350. Last edited by spudly; 01-14-2009 at 02:49 PM. |

Re: Exhaust gaskets????
I didn't have any luck with the copper ones. I went and used the stock OEM manifold gaskets & never had a leak again. And that's using headers also.

Re: Exhaust gaskets????
I've always used the factory gaskets for manifolds with my headers. NEVER had a leak. Also, I use 3 inch doughnut gaskets where the collector bolts to the header, also never leaked.
