non lifted 4X4 tires

I have a full size truck 4X4 that is mostly used as a get around vehicle. It is going to be used upstate ny which is rural and hilly. The last mile or two is a dirt road ( gravel) and on a real hill which a 2wd just cant cut it so i went to 4wd... Anyway with this kind of driving, what kind of tires ( Make and model) are you guys using and would it be good for my application.. also after the ford fiasco, does anyone still use firestone/bridgestone tires? and how are they?
Im still thinking about their history of blowing out.. for generations..

For all-around traction & toughness, it's hard to beat a BFG All Terrain T/A (I am happy with them on my K20) -- but they are rather proud of them $$$.

Firestones have never been my favorite, but after the Exploder issues (partially Ford's fault for sure), they are probably as safe as most other tires. Bridgestone (Firestone's parent company) makes good tires -- their Revo is an excellent tire in the wet, but gets noisy near the end of its tread life.

Of course for a smooth ride and long life, not much beats Michelin (BFG's parent company), but they don't make a great off-pavement traction tire imo, and they are also pretty costly.

I just bought Cooper Discoverer ATRs for my wife's Tacoma (more affordable), but it's way to soon to rate them other than good basic road manners...

bfg all terrains as stocker said are good tires and have a long life. also general grabbers are good tires, they are cheaper than the bfg's and i have heard good things about them, although i have never used them myself.

I have goodyear wranglers on there now and they worked but they are almost wore out .. they didnt have a ton of traction on the driveway.. im gonna see what the ones youve suggested will run me

I like Firestone. By far the longest lasting tire I have owned. We had a set on the Tahoe since brand new and they last till 106,000 miles before a belt broke. they still had tread left too. they where wildeness LE's. The whole blow out thing was Fords fault if you ask me. The combo of there wheels, the vehicles specs caused the problem. Those same tires where on S-10's all over the place and I have never head of an incident.

Firestones, BFG's Bridgestones are all good tires if you ask me but command a high price. When I replace the ones on my 4x4 I am going with maxis tires. They may not last quite as long but are far more aggressive and cheaper. all terrains are good all around tire but i like a slightly more aggressive tire.

There is no way that Ford was responsible for rubber that was not vulcanized properly. The layers of rubber were not vulcanized into solid rubber. I could flip the rubber on my treads like a pack of cards. Add heat to a loose pack like this and pop goes the weasel.

I did have one blow out, long before the recall, but I kept, and traded it in with the other three. All four tires had delaminated treads. As well as many in the pile of trade-ins.

I like BFG AT's as well but you should weigh the price, road noise and road use that you will be doing. They (like most AT's) are good all around. Mud tires look cooler for an off-road rig but drive rough on the highway and will wearout more quickly.

If they are more than you want to spend find an offbrand AT tires that's semi-aggressive.

I've been real happy so far with Procomp Extreme ATs on the Blazer. A bit heavier lug than the BFG ATs but not quite a mud terrain.

I just purchased some Hankook Dynampro ATM for my K20. Haven't got it on the road yet to see how they are. Wanted something different and around here everyone is running the Yokohama Geolanders.

I just put Uniroyal Laredo AWTs on my daily driven work truck.They are an aggressive tread for an all season tire.Like a cross between all season an all terrain.I stay away from wider all weather tires because they tend to hydroplane.They are designed for narrower sizes.But,these are open enough not to be a problem and do no worse in mud than A/Ts.Goodyear now owns Uniroyal.I`ve never been cheap when it comes to tires.But,have begun economizing on my worktruck.But I still buy a good name,just more in the middle price range.I used to run Kelly AWRs (also owned by Goodyear) on my work truck,but they weren`t available when I got tires a month or so ago.

Im not too concerned with road noise but im also told that the louder the noise the more friction which impedes gas mileage, so im kinda looking for a quality tire with good ice traction and that wont kill my mileage.. ive never had to buy tires for a 4wd before,, the others ive had never needed em
