Newbie with a '65 Chevy - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My name is Chris and I have been reading and researching on here for a few months. I finally registered and took a pic of my old truck to post. This truck was given to me by my father some 15 years ago. We drove it for a couple of years, then started to tear apart to restore. It has been in a storage shed at my parents house for more than 10 years. About 6 months ago we moved it to my brothers new shop to get started on it. My 7 year old son loves to go over to the shop and work on "his" truck. Plans are to slam it with a dropmember in front and maybe the rear dropmember later on, 22's and air bags. We will have a 350 engine backed by a 700 trans. No idea on paint as of now.

I am also a newbie with a 65 but the 65 is a newbie too. Well it is new to me anyway. Just bought it a week ago. I have to finish up a few things to get it on the road but probably in a week or so it will be my Dailyd drive/project truck. Love the board Ill be a reg now that Ive found it.

We got that set of dollies @ Aoto Fair in Charlotte, NC, not sure which vendor.
They were not the heavy duty set, but they work great. One person can move the truck around.

The truck's suspension was torn apart and sitting on jack standswhen my brother decided to sheetrock the ceiling, so he put it back together with no springs in it. In the pic it is on the bump stops.

I found a better bed over the Christmas break for $200(another fleetside). This truck was originally a stepside, which I still have.

Hey Guys, it's great to see all of you with such a keen interest in Chevys. I am also new to this forum and new to the 60's truck scene. I have been stuck in the 80's truck scene for a few years now. I recently purchased a '62 shorty fleetside with a 283 3-speed and am about to get underway with restoring it. I have a few questions which I hope that some of you can help me with.
1) Can you use the front end suspension from an 80's truck on a 62?
2) If not, can I use a set of my 80's dropped spindles on he '62 or are they way off?
3) My truck has a 6 lug bolt pattern but most of the ones I see have 5, what's the deal???... should I switch?
4) My truck has small circular reverse lights under the tail lights yet I don't see these lights on other 60's trucks?
5) How does one get rid of the chains on the tailgate yet still have it functional?
6) Any suggestions on putting in power steering, what's the easiest?
and finally...for now...
7) Do you know where I can get a windshield wiper knob, mine is missing and it's the rainy season up here in Canada.
I really appreciate anyone's help with these matters and eagerly await your response.
