Colored Lights In Grill
Hey I picked up a bunch of purple 1156 bulbs to put in my truck. I want to put some under the hood and in the cab, which should be pretty straight forward. However, I think it would be cool to put a couple in the grill. Unfortunatly it doesn't look like this will be really easy to do without making it look funny. I was thinking I might have to fabricate some type of mount at school in order to make the set-up look clean in terms of physical appearance. Has anybody done this and have some examples? Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

I agree with 'Hornmail on this one ... any lamps or lights on the front of a vehicle has to be either white or yellow/orange. Or so I have always been told.

I'll talk to my uncle(local police officer). I have been told that around here they mainly go after blue and red lights. Any other color is all right as long as it isn't out in the open.

all it takes is a trip to a neighboring town. An officer sees you...and BAM, a huge fine. It is easy for a cop to convince the judge that it looks like a blue light...esp in a small town with mayors court...they just want your money there.

67cst: Don't worry, it's under control .
longhornmail: I shouldn't have too much of a problem. The light will be rigged up on a switch so I will be able to turn it off at my discretion. Also a lot of the RCMP around here don't work that way. Generally you get a warning and if it happens again you get a fine(sometimes you even get another warning). Plus I don't travel a whole lot other than to go to the lake. It's half an hour away, but still patrolled mainly by our detachment.

I modified the bowtie in the middle of my grille in my '72 to be lighted. I took out the stock blue "lens" in the middle, cut a new one out of plexiglass, gave it a light coat of blue spray paint, and installed a light behind it. I hooked the light up to my marker lights, so it comes on when i pull the light know 1/2 way out. I have never had an officer say anything about, and i have had it on there for about a year so far.

Well, I talked to my uncle last night. He said if they are dull lights that won't be placed in a visible spot and are hooked up on a toggle switch, then it would be allright. He said that the highway patrol would be the one to watch out for, but I won't drive down the highway with them on.
