Spring?

Hello everyone I am looking at buying a 69 gmc 3/4 ton 4x4 in the upcoming week and have a few ?'s. First are the front leaf springs interchangeable from teh 73-87 chevy trucks. I have a set of 4 inch front springs in the garage and was hoping to use them. Also the truck is a factory 4 speed what tranny do you think is in it? And last for now what front differential is used it is a disk brake front end just not sure what one. Thanks and I will post the pics when we get it home

Re: Spring?

I would guess a SM 465 tranny, dana 44 front axle... Not sure on the springs but I thought the fronts were longer in 73...

are you sure it's disk? someone might have swapped it. I didn't think disk should up until 70 or 71 but I might be wrong.... corp 10 bolt works as well...

Re: Spring?

The later front springs are too long unless you move a shackle mount. Someone has swapped in a different axle as the 69 axle was not available with disk brakes. The transmission should be an SM465 - reverse is to the right and down.

Transfer case is probably the Rockwell T221.

Will be easy to confirm all of this once you post the pics.

Re: Spring?

i have a 68 suburban.. i used a 4 inch from a 78 truck.. they are longer but they worked... i put longer shackles on from autozone... and it moved my axle back about an inch... because of the shackles i have more lift in the front than the back... if i did it again i would use the right springs so the axle is centered in the wheelwell...
