72 dually conversion
I have a 72 C30 longhorn that Im thinking of making a dually hauler. Has anyone seen or heard of grafting a set of step side fenders to a fleetside? Do you think the side tool box would interfere? Any other suggestions?

They both look like post 88 flairs. Still, it makes my heart flutter. Especially the blue. Ive thought of stretching the cab as well and adding a short box. Thanx for the pics, Solver !

The pic of the one Stano has is the shiznit. Do you know if it is a dealer conversion or a fabshops work of art? I like it alot. I'd go with that one.

later model dually rearends come in 2 widths. find the narrow one and then a nice ;ittle rubber flair will cover the tire and you wont have to worry about knocking the rear fenders off on a mail box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would love to get my hands on a extra cab or a 4 door cab as in the above photos. any one with ideas.... i have 3 good cabs just siiting waiting for this project.

Ive got the original 1 ton rear but its single wheel with 8 lug. I was hoping I could just find a junked cab and chassis and rob it of the drums and front spindle assembly. Im just afraid that the side bed tool box is going to interfere and I would hate to lose it. Ive heard about different ways of doing the cab. Some have grafted two cabs, but Ive been told that the easiest way woud be to aquire a donor burb body thats thats not completly eaten out ( not easy so far, is it?!) and graft the rear of the standard cab just behind the rear door. Either way requires a top notch welder and alot of $$$. Good investment though, I would think. Im, personally, still at that " do I dare cut into my original untouched 72?" stage.

Your C/30 longhorn is one of 2450 built. You sure you want to do somethign that can not be reversed very easily?
Also...you got any pics? If your interested, I am about to add a butt load of longhorns to my site. I would be more than happy to show yours on there. |

How many of those 2450 were cheyennes or super cheyenne? I am kinda leaning towards the "keep original" idea although I may change the color. Ochre was never my favorite color but I always took the stanch that it grows on ya. Cant seem to get the wife to agree with it .Dont have any pics yet , but I will have. Thinking of trading a 70 C-10 project that I have to someone in exchange for a little bodywork and a paint job. The better half has threaten me on this one. She says if I take something apart on it I have 48 hours to make it streetable. Shes tired of bumping the door of her trans am on it in the garage........ lol Sure will be happy to get my own detatched garage !!

Not only is it a color that grows on you it is a color that multiplies!~ I am swapping some parts for an ochre and white cab with front clip to put on the C30 dually. Then I will have the 3 burbs, the dually, and 1 C20 Camper special that are all OCHRE and white. I think I might have the record.
And for whatever reason, more women than men have an adverse reaction to the color. I have been to many car shows only to overhear some guy say "but honey.....it's the original color....." and she says "I don't care....who in their right mind would keep it that color?" I love it, can't get enough of it, and that is all that matters!

I have a disk around here somewhere of a custom '67 extended cab dually. I just took them a couple days ago. If I find 'em I'll post 'em. The truck is immaculate. I wish I could talk my wife into it. The guy was selling it CHEAP!.

I have no idea how amny were cheyennes or super cheyenne...but not many. No one opted for option packages on one tons...they just picked this and that when ordering.
You have probably noticed that your cheyenne/30 badge is imposable to find. |

(Laughing) Youre right Andy...... With you being the expert here, that was my next question to ya. Impossible to find, huh?? It also has what appears to be factory cruise. Id like to find some info on that as well. We e-mailed each other awhile back when I first bought the truck if you remember. It was about the time that you went and picked up your current project I believe.

Honestly, I do not remember. i get quite a bit of e-mail between the 4 or 5 boards I visit, and my web sites...all going to the longhornmail account...kinda hard to remember who is who and all.
I do know that less than 2% were built with cruise control. (mine is one of them!  )

Those duallys are pretty awesome. The '71/'72 trucks looks almost like a factory dually. Now i would love to see someone take a K20 4x4 and do the conversion. Just think, a 67-72 crew cab, dually, 4x4
. The truck that Chevy should have made!
