ignition help
this might sound stupid, but i'm wondering what is the bare minimum i need to get my truck started? i bought a new battery. and the alternator tested good. i thing its the wiring between the key and somewhere? what is the fastest or easiest way to rewire temporarily to get it started? thanks for any help. i had it for sale but it just quit starting. the wiring looks like spagetti espically under the dash.

Re: ignition help
Do you have electronic distributor? If so:
Dis-connect the battery first! 1-Put a wire(#14 guage or larger)on the inside terminal(closest to the engine) of the starter solenoid,I'd use a spring clip for this. 2-Run a wire(#10 guage)from positive on battery to the "BAT" terminal on the distributor cap. This puts power on the coil/dist.Dis-connect any wire that's already there for now. Connect the battery again. Put the wire in 2 on the positive terminal so you can pull it off easily to kill engine. Just touch the wire 1 on the positive terminal. This puts 12 volts on the starter to start the engine.Once engine runs, remove this wire from battery. On points type distributor,do the same as above except connect the 2 wire to the + side of the coil.Do not run the engine for more than a couple minutes or you will burn the points. It needs a resistor in the circuit for longer running times. Btw,I was born in Ozark at Dale County Hospital a long time ago! Mike. |
