While looking for an axle for my Jeep I came across a 66 flat bed truck in a salvage yard. I'm not sure the size of it, maybe a 1 ton? It had large exterior steps mounted under the doors and the cab was in near perfect shape and my question is are all the cabs the same size? Would this work on a half ton minus the side steps? It appeared to be identical to my 1/2 ton cab but I'm not sure. My cab needs tons of work and this would deffinently be a time saver.

yes it will work, sometimes the big trucks have a flat floor hump, and a lower column drop, that should be the only 2 differences.

66short step,

You need to be careful as the cab mounts are different, the 60-62 cab mounts are the same. 63-66 they changed. I learned this from Jolly's 60-66 GMC site.

You might have to use the trans hump and the mating part of the firewall from your existing cab to make it work.

What's different about the cab mounts? It was obviously sitting on a larger frame. Different locations?

Well on the standard cab, the frame mounts were set back I believe, I'm not sure it this would be the same for your application, Is the cab you're looking at the base cab with just the bigger fender shirts added to it.

I believe it is just a base cab. Yes it does have the larger fender skirts on it.

OK I know they have different miount. here is the web address for the Yahoo 60-66 club, join abd do a search for the cab mount issue, You find all sorts of information the web master is Jolly goodfellow.

are you just talking the difference of the front mounts on a 60-62 cab, or was there something extra that was different on the big truck?
I know the 3/4 ton uses a different rear mount, but it is the mount on the frame that is different , not the cab.

I can't remember all the finite details. I never had an issue with this but the guys over at Jolly's page will tell you MORE than you will ever want to know.

Some of the members had to move the mounts in order to use a better cab.
