Cab Support Question
I am working my way (slowly) toward putting my cab support(front) back in. I ran into some trouble tonight when I found the main brace had a hole rusted thru where the old support fastened. I welded a small piece to that to support it.
My camera batteries go dead just when I need them the most. I need to buy a new set of rechargeables. I have it charging now. My question is about the new support. On the inboard side there are two pieces or tabs that look like they would easily fold out at 90's and then be welded to the main brace. It would be a lot stronger that way and I think line up better as well. Is that typical to bend those out? It looks like the originals were made that way. When I get some pics up later it may make more sense. |

Didn't one of you have a floor pan that the mounting hole for the bolt was off about 1/2"? Mine looks like it will be. I just wanted to see how that worked out for you. It night have been Alan, so I'm going to search through his build and see if I can find it. |

Damn, didn't think I would get the batteries charged, photos snapped and loaded on here before a member of the posse caught me, but I may have made it. The first pic is of the tabs I question if they should be bent outward at a 90 and the second is of the hole in the main brace.

I do have one question. I am replacing the bottom piece of the A pillar. It would seem like it would restrict the space to have it back on first, but I suspect having that piece and any part of the kick panel that needs replacing on prior to the cab support would give a good references. I did fit and mark the location for the new pillar patch before removing what was left of the old. Is my reasoning sound here??

Well, after I got through finaggling and trimming bits off of the pan to fit it around the jack mounting hardware my hole lined up. I was able to get enough cut out to clean up all along the main brace and hopefully tomorrow will take some pics, cut out and weld in patch for kick panel and tack the A pillar patch on in preparation for fitting the floor up. I can already see I will need one more patch panel for the rear of this side, so I'll have to get that ordered.
I'm pooped!! It sure is a lot more work and takes a lot longer to do this than the guy in the video. I'm tired enough I'm going to stop before I make a mistake or do something silly safety wise. |

Looking at this rear floor piece i will need and have a few questions. This will not come far enough forward to butt against the front section of floor pan. Will I need to put a piece of regular inner rocker between the two and just try to match them up? The outer most part of the floor pan patches is actually the inner rocker, correct?

Ok, I'm going to try to do a better job of describing it with a set of pics.
Pic A shows what i have cut out now and hope to replace on the front Pic B I have rust along the edge of the floor pan, but also around the seat belt fastening location of the floor. PicC My front floor pan would sit in here and end at this point. I need something to continue that, or does the full inner rocker go inside this? PicD I have a full inner rocker as shown. Do I just leave the front part attached to the floor and continue the inner rocker from there? I think part of my confusion is the shape at the top of the inner rocker versus the part of what I think is inner rocker that is attached to the floor pan, as the inner rocker is turned up and the floor part just bends around and becomes floor because it is one piece. Well that makes two of us!! Does the inner rocker piece go under the floor pan piece where it turns downward? I could look at the other side and get a better picture in my mind, but my dad has it so fiberglassed and bondoed up, I can't tell what's what.

I think you are right about that part!! As I look at Alans pic it makes a little more sense. Where he has extended the inner rocker piece from the floor pan....does the top of that inner rocker just get ground down level with the floor and then welded to the floor? I think the inner rocker I have would stick up above the floor. You can't really tell it in this pic, but the inner most vertical part of the rocker sticks up about 1/8" above the floor. I keep hearing people refer to the door seal fastening to that part and I'm confused about that.

No progress for awhile. We had a bad ice storm and I am without power since Wednesday. I'm using a small generator to do a few small tasks such as my first online experience this week!! I was using a small electric heater off the generator and living in one room till last night. A former neighbor came over and we wired the generator to my furnace...that helped a bunch. Problem is, it is a small generator and has a small tank. I have been getting up every three hours thru the night since Wednesday to fuel the darn thing!!
I had a couple 20 hour workdays as I am a grounds superintendent at a local University and they hate to cancel classes and 85% of our students live on campus. They did cancel and close the university one day, but all that meant for me was that most others got a day off paid while my crew was there hard at work. |
