Np 203 issue
Well My truck 77 K10 always seemed to shift fine. Then one day when I shifted it into low and back into hi it was not engaging. If I shift it out of high it will go into what ever range I choose but then when shifting back it gets stuck out. Normally it will get stuck between high and high lock. It will grind and not go into eather. Or it will go into high but won't actually ingauge. then If you gently pull it back into 4x4 hi lock it will grind a slight amount and click in. But because it is a full time it needs to be in high for street driving. So sometimes from high lock only it will shift into hi. the last time it did it I just left it in high not wanting to monkey around with it.
Does this sound like an adjustment issue?? I heard these are really hard to adjust and the shifter does not seem to have any slop. I can give a better explanation if specific questions are asked. The truck only has 28,000 so I am guessing the chain is not stretched? Thanks for any input

Re: Np 203 issue
It is probably a shifter issue. They have a tendancy to get "gritty" inside. It is a fairly complicated unit for the simple thing it has to do. Generally the only thing that is required is a simple tear-down and clean-up. Put is back together with a little grease between the plates and it will be fine.
It is not too hard to do either. It can all be done from above, if you take out the floor mat/pad and unbolt the floor hump. It only takes a few bolts to get the entire thing out. It is rare to see a 30+ year old truck that still has the full-time case unconverted though. The conversion kit should only cost about $100 and it is well worth the effort. You will notice an improvement in power immediately and better fuel mileage too. You do have to get under the truck for this one though.....

Re: Np 203 issue
yeah I have looked into the mile markeer kit and will do so as money allow. It does get kinda pricey with the kit and then the hubs. there are too kits offered by them and the expensive option seems to work best in the long run. It states for the cheaper option that I don't need to change out the bubs but I think it is worth it to change them.
Thanks for the advice I will propbily tear into this on presidents day
