What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=

Link not working?
Item number: 190282606894

It's at $227 with three days to go. Just thought it would be interesting what this wheel will go for.

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

Works for me.

See if this works:

*Edit: Never mind, my links wouldn't work either. Weird. I've never had a problem linking ebay before?

Nice wheel:

I have the exact same wheel in my truck, but mine has cracks and the scroll work on the steering wheel has been worn smooth

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

A colored wheel would be worth more. The black wheels were used in Vans until`79,so stock wasn`t depleted for years past the colored ones. Was that one n.o.s.?

No...but the seller says the condition is close to NOS...which means it better be mint.

that's not a 69 - 72 wheel. look at the bow tie on the horn button. That's a 73 - 79 van

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

Uhhh...N.O.S. is mint at best.If it`s close to N.O.S. then it`s excellant to near mint at best.I`d say it`s worth a couple hundred dollars.

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

Andy, quick question, the bowtie on the one in my truck is blue (I stole it from my grandpa's rotted out 72 YEARS ago). Were the 69-72 buttons blue and 73+ van yellow? Or is a truck vs. van coloring?

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

I've been bidding on that from the start but really why can't someone reproduce these wheels in all the colors with the correct grain? The repro's out there are a mile off and can be told from that far also! I would have no problem paying $200 for a true high quality reproduction if they were tooled to produce a high quality look and feel. So to me it makes a mint original or NOS steering wheel a high dollar hunt these days.

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

I`d pay good money for an excellent oem wheel.I have a n.o.s. saddle one I bought in`91 I gladly paid $325 for.I could have bought a black one at the dealer for less than 1/4 of that.i`d rather dye a black wheel than use a repro. They could have spent a couple more dollars and put the proper gauge wire stock in the rim.

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

chevy trucks (including vans) all had blue bow ties through 72. They chainged to yellow in 73, and then to gold sometime later... mid/late 80's I think.
Cars may have had the same color/timeline... but I am unsure.
You'll see hubcaps sold like this too, yellow bow tie makes it a later hubcap regardless what the seller claims.

Anyone ever see a green bowtie on the cap? I sold a nice stock wheel awhile back and it had a green bowtie in the center

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

Price hasn't moved.

Thanks for the info Andy. So we either have another untruthful seller or he replaced the horn button. OR, it could be another one of those crazy factory screw ups (or they ran out of '72 stuff?) at the very end of the 72 model year .

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

I have a NOS green steering wheel with a NOS GMC horn button. I think I paid $300 for the wheel and $50 for the button on Ebay. If the black one goes for any less than that I would consider it a bargain.

I don't think I will put my wheel in my truck since they are so hard to find.

I'm probably better off not driving it anyway as expensive as these parts are!

It's at $229 with 1 day 13 hours to go. I am guessing it will top $300. JMHO

Re: What will this mint Black Steering Wheel go for?

From his description in the listing: "I see no cracks on the entire wheel, There may be a very slight hairline crack (or maybe it is a scratch) on the back side where the ring meets the center"

That comment could hold bidding back a bit, I would guess some where in between the $3-350. mark.
