Need help on pulley issue

I've been able to get a set of double groove pulley's that are for my '60 GMC The upper pulley (waterpump) simply bolts on with no problem.

However, the lower double groove pulley has to be attached to the crank shaft (which you then press on the shaft as normal) How would I go about removing the factory single grove and replacing it with the double groove?

Anybody done this before?

Here is the webshots link for the pictures.

The forsy pictures is the oem single I need to remove off the shaft ans replace with the double groove in the the pictures.

Thanks Jake

Re: Need help on pulley issue

Jake, It is very difficult to see whats going on with the pictures you posted. It does look like there are two rivets that are holding the single grove pulley to the harmonic balancer. If that is the case I would have this swap done by a professional shop that specializes in rebuilding dampeners. I have used these guys a few times and have been very happy with their services and price. They have a two day turnaround from the time they receive your part to the time it ships back out. The last thing you want to do is damage either the pulley or balancer or, worse have it come apart while operating the vehicle. Good Luck. http://www.damperdudes.net/

Re: Need help on pulley issue

looks to me like the pulley is just pressed on the balancer shaft....there are over sized holes to fit around the rivets.
you could try taking it to a local shop to get it pressed off and back on...
one of those large bearing splitters and a press might do the trick.

Another reason for having a professional damper shop do this is if the surface for the seal has any wear they will address this as well. JM2 cents.

Re: Need help on pulley issue

OH DUH!!

I has been so long since I had fooled with the harmonic balancer I had forgot that the pulley is simply pressed down and THEN held in place by 6 5/8" bolts. I feel like a DOPE.

I simply yused a large flat blade screw driver and popped off the single groove, pressed down the double groove and incerted the new bolts.

I must be geting too old for this stuff.
