I am restoreing a 66 stepside that the wood bed had rotted away when I got it.
I cut down a Red Cedar tree because of tornado damage and carried it to a saw mill to get cut in 8 in.X 10 foot boards and stored them in my garage attic 3 years ago to dry.
I have painted the cab of my truck and am going to take the bed off to paint it in the next few weeks. I am trying to get it ready for a local car show in April of this year,and want to use the Cedar in this bed because the truck is solid black.
Does any one have any measurements and what the board with is and where the holes are to be drilled? Also the grove for the bed slats.

HogDoc, I have made a number of bedwood kits over the years and have found this place a good sorce for the dimentions. If you have any questions about the procedure don't hesitate to ask. Good Luck

Here is the one in my truck. I widened my wheel wheel 1-1/2" Then adjusted the bed wood to look as factory. I also have a ash bed for a short fleet that is available. I do not drill. Instead I fly cut the bottom so no bolts go in from above and they are hidden.

Try using tape measure. Stepsides are not that hard. That is how I did mine.

A trick that I learned from an old man here in Texas....

He had a 62, I believe, painted purple. He painted the wood with the same purple paint. The purple paint soaked into the grain. He then sanded the wood bak down and stained it.

You could see the purple in the grain.

Looked pretty sweet!
