63 4x4 rebuild project

Just thought I'd post a few photo's of my rebuild, just finishing body work, I already rebuilt the drive lines and brakes, I have a good 292 but I think I'm going with a 350 maybe a later sm465 plus the NP 205 case. Anyway, here aare a few, I just started reskinning the doors.

Wow,

Can't wait to see it finished. What are you plans for paint, solid or two tone? What about tires and wheels, the stock look or after market? It does't matter what you decide it's sure to look great. Keep us posted!

Re: 63 4x4 rebuild project

Yes, It has the original axles, I actually have two of the front axles. I really haven't decided for sure about the paint, it will be red, but I really like the two tone colors. will paint a grey interior. Proably use a single stage inside and base clear on the outside. I'll eventually convert the front ot disc and proably the rears as well, but I can do that over time. I will put in power steering at the get go. I already have the bracket fabbed so here we go, Larry

Thumbs up Re: 63 4x4 rebuild project

looks really nice--familiar too. we built my nephew a 4x4 using a 65 short 4x4 frame , later running gear and his 63 shortbed body. we built it about 10 years ago and he drives it everywhere.

we used a 73 sm465/205 trans/t-case, 69 rear, 75 front with discs, power steering and power brakes. we built the entire rolling chassis and when it was ready to go we had him drive up in his 2wd on a friday after he got off work and he drove home on sunday with a 4x4. we trailered it to the shop i work in at about 2 on sunday afternoon so i could put on new dual exhaust and send him on his way. from the outside it appears stock right down to chrome bumpers front and rear.

Re: 63 4x4 rebuild project

Got the rust cut out of the inner fenders and repaired the radiator support, put them on the truck and hung the fenders so I could see where the doors need to go. Started removing the metal strips on the bed floor to get the old wood out. I also put the seat inside for storage, it's going to snow and I am working out for a coupla of weeks so I had to make room for the wifes car, I also wanted to sit in it I hadn't had the chance yet. More later, Larry
