Re: Tilt Steering!

I used one from a 77 Blazer. I also used the bracket from under the dash that has the brake pedal on it. It makes lining up the holes and linkage for power brakes easy!

Re: Tilt Steering!

73 to 80 van column. Not much mods need to be done. Maybe weld some nuts on column to bolt up to the bracket. You can get a collapsable lower column also. The column in the pics are from a 79 and it is a tilt. I have changed it out because the shifter was sloppy and now there is one from a 76 van camper in it.

Re: Tilt Steering!

I just bought a Camaro Tilt column. I'll be installing it in my 65. Look for it in my build thread. I chose the Camaro Column because I want a floor shifter.

I pretty much install the column with the bracket under it, line up the column and mark where the bolt holes are on the column and just tack on a couple of nuts to the column and put it back in to make sure they are lined up right. After that you can pull the column back out and put a few more tach welds on the bolts so the stay put.

Re: Tilt Steering!

Not trying to jump the thread but which year columns are the ones that will bolt over with light mods, has tilt and DOES NOT have a key in the column. I want to keep my key in the factory place of the dash.

Re: Tilt Steering!

Another application for tilt columns that will work is in class A and B motor homes (Winnebago's) I've got one that came out of a '89 motor home and it is just like a regular van column.

You can get them from Summit or a local speed shop. It is a combo 36 spline with a DD fitting on the other side. The picture shown without the front sheetmetal on, has a 73 to 87 lower truck shaft on it.

Re: Tilt Steering!

cool, thanks!!
do you know the diameter of the splined side? I see 5/8", 3/4", and 13/16"
i'm guessing both the splined and the DD are 3/4"?

They are probably 3/4.
