Removing in Cab Gas Tank Supports - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Are they pressed in or part of the cab itself? 62 pickup

Mack, just drill out the spotwelds and they will come right out.

you may need to use a flap disk or wire wheel to uncover the spots.
in the '64-'56'-66 they are part of the rear cab mounts and seem to add some rigidity to the back wall of the cab....
My thinking on my is to just cut off the front portion that sticks out for the tank to sit on.

not sure about the '60-'63 cabs

here are the pics for anyone interested.

13 weld spots per bracket... if you add the four bolts holding it down..lol.. this thing wasn't going anywhere!... lmao.. talk about overkill.

Worth taking out IMO .. look at the rust lurking behind it!

Only one oopsy ... 25 partial holes and 1 oopsy..lol

Mack, Looks good. I did the exact same thing in my cab. Including drilling through the back of the cab in one place...

and they looked about like yours comming out....

I just used a bolt and washer.

Hehe! Nothing that cant be covered

I plan to just take a quarter inch flat plate to lay across from one hole to the next (on each side)... washer, lock washer and nut or perhaps nylocs.. either way...

BUT here is a question.... or thoughts....sand surface rust? then just spray paint using paint with a rust inhibitor? then coat entire bottom portion of cab with rhino liner before putting in sound deadener? or just use the rhino in the footwells? or ???? trying to figure out best way to treat it...most if it will be covered with carpeting...

I would do all of that. Sand, wirebrush, whatever you prefer. Im not sure what rhino liner can be sprayed on, but maybe self-etching primer. Rhino the whole floor .......fill in your threaded holes first.

Chief turned me on to this spray it yourself 2 part bedliner, U-POL Raptor, for around $120 you get a gallon, hardener, and even the gun. Have read good things about it on a jeep forum. you can't spray it on bare metal though, they recommend a good etching primer on any bare metal. I think I'm gonna use it on the underside of the cab along with inside on the floor.
