I decided to get going again on the restoration of my '72 c20. I ordered a factory replacement seat cover in the correct green vinyl from Brother's parts. It cost me over $200. It looks really nice and appears to be a very good reproduction of the original seat cover. I finally got around to taking my seat and the cover to the upholstery shop. The upholstery guy tells me it is cut about 2.5" too narrow and there is no way it is going to fit. My truck is 100% stock and the bench seat is original and has the factory cover (just worn a bit so I wanted to replace it).

I called Brother's and the girl on the phone did not know what to tell me... so she told me her supervisor would contact me tomorrow. I guess I need to send this cover back. Very frustrating.

Anyone else ever have this problem with seat covers purchased from brother's?

I am planning on recovering all three of my benches in the burb, and I am still trying to figure out who is the best shop to order from...

I have heard so many negative stories from people on here about seat covers that it makes me wonder.

Be patient - I am surprised they ask you to wait a day - anything can happen - humans make these things and can make a mistake - I also know it is cold outside and seat fabric often needs to get good and warmed up to stretch over the inerds

$200, ouch that's pricey. My upholstery guy redid my bench for $250. New vinyl, custom.

The guy who did my seat, put in new foam and fixed some broken springs as well. A good upholstery guy can work magic.
To the OP, I'd ask your shop what they can do for you.

The only bad thing about an upholstery shop is that they can't duplicate seats with heat seamed and scroll patterns. You have to settle with a basic looking seat or a custom looking seat. I have a black leather seat in my '69 looks nice and all, but its not really what I want. When I do the resto on my truck, I want to go back with a factory seat cover. The black leather will still be used, but I'll stick it another one of my trucks.

SMS in Canby, OR will duplicate your old interior...EXACTLY...with the heat pressed seams and all. You DON'T want to know the price however. But if you ever need an exact replica for a 100 pt. restoration...they are the guys!

Most of the seat covers that vendors sell are made by PUI....Brothers, LMC, the truck Shop, etc all sell the same covers.

Either exchange it, or go to another shop. I am planning on putting my own on when I get around to it. It needs to be heated up prior to installing to stretch the fabric. I have heard a hairdryer will suffice, as well as a heat gun on Low setting from harbor freight.

The covers are very tight going on. Every seat I've recovered that I've had to recover were a pain to install. They always seemed too small. Makes me wonder if the upholstery guy knew what he was doing.
Usually it just takes heat and strong hands.
